i wouldn't mess with the sony explodes unless they are mobile es. they will say it right on the dust cap. if you want some good cheap subs, go to www.crutchfield.com and they have a hell of a deal on infinity reference subs. they pound and sound good

Sony Explode subs aren't recommended...if your looking for a very low budget sub, I recommend the Pioneer TS-W305C from www.ikesound.com for $59 each (shipped). If you have a higher budget tell us what you want to spend...and we'll help you spend it!

Some things are NOT a bargain at any price at any retailer. The initial cost of an item is only part of the final expense. In spite of someone's budget as to what they can spend in $$$$, a more "expensive" piece of gear may be cheaper in the long run. It also offers a high level of performance, while replacing low end equipment on a regular basis is more "expensive", while at the same time offering low end performance.

Bottom line: If the Wally World stuff is in your budget range, at least try to use it as it is intended, within its design limits, and it will last for years. Even Sony Xplod. Start trying to pretend it's JLAudio or Zapco, or something it's not, and you're screwed. This kind of equipment is very limited in its performance capabilities and how much user abuse it can handle. Be wary of ratings and claims by low end manufacturers and even lower end lines of major companies like Pioneer and Lightning and Sony, etc. For example, there are reasons that 5x7 3-ways and 4-ways can be had for $50; they're junk and they sound like junk. But, even at that, they will likely last for years if not abused. Almost all failures of even mediocre gear is because of user abuse or misuse.

Kicker is, and has been, a major name in car audio for many, many years. To make a general statement that they are "real good", is not really fair, because they make some really good stuff and some low end stuff that is just that, low end. Almost all the companies like Kicker, who try to appeal to the masses, make compromises in their equipment to get it to fit into a certain price range. It only makes sense that their $60 subs won't be as "good" as their $500 ones.
