I found a good speaker dealer
I found a really good speaker dealer, but they do not carry 6x8's, and they have some nice Infinity 6.5's and 6X9's. I dont want any cutting or anything to be done. Will either of these fit in my 2003 f150 extended cab. Is there no point in getting the 6 1/2's if I am not running an amp to them?
please let me kno before i buy
thanks

I was thinking about trying to install the speakers and a new deck myself, and I must say I kno next to nothing about this. Is this a bad idea? Or is there some book I can get and follow? If I do this will I be voiding any ford warranties, or any kind of warranties. Please let me know.
Thanks

You will have to do some cutting or make an adapter if you get any size speakers besides 5x7/6x8. If you get the 5x7/6x8 replacement speakers they will mount in the factory holes perfectly. Installation is easy...order some speaker plug adapters from Crutchfield.com, then the hardest part is taking off the door panels.
well as far as installing the stuff yourself if your not afraid to give it a shot you will be gald you did. audio install is a very easy thing to do. for alot of ppl the install is in most cases damn near as much as the equipment there having installed. really a rip off.
take some time and look around the internet there are sooo many sites to help you along your way. and if you ask me things just sound better when you do it yourself. it not so much the speakers that will sound better its more the sound of patting yourself on the back for a job well done haha.
as far as the speakers go personaly i think that components NEED a amp thats what they are designed for and they perform there best that way. if you are dealing with a money issue go ahead and buy the components and use ytour head unit for now. and then save up and buy the amp at a latter date. its not that they dont work with just a head unit its just that they will not sound nearly as good without a amp. but on the other hand they are guarenteed to sound beter the what you have now even without the amp. gl to ya and happy listening

Thanks for the info. What about a new stereo, I heard they can be a b#$tch to install? Like i said I know nothing, but will follow a manual. And will this hurt my ford warranty. And will 6X8's or 5X7's sound good, enough to spend $200, or do I have to go all out for the components?
Ohhh and guys you should check out Ikesound.com, better prices then crutchfield, and cheaper, check it out.
thanks

I suggest.. if you want to go with components wait till you have enough money for the amp and components at the same time. You'll be grossly underpowering them with the head unit and I assume you'll try to crank it up and end up distorting the sound and possibly damaging the speakers. It'll just suit you better to wait and get it all at once.. you'll be amazed at the difference in sound quality.. as well as quantity (volume).
You can fit 6.5" speakers in the factory hole.. but like 2TRUCKS said.. you'll have to fabricate an adapter plate (easily done with wood) or purchase one of the plastic ones. 6x9's are not a good idea.. you'll certainly have to cut the door metal to fit that in there.
If you're planning on simply using the factory head unit to power some aftermarket speakers.. pick up the 5x7/6x8 replacements and you'll be fine. You won't notice a huge change in the low end but the aftermarkets will definitely sound much better than the factory speakers on the high end of the audio.
