Component Speaks in the F150
Ok, here's an update.
I decided I wanted a lot more from my system. So it took a while and $$$.
Head unit - 8443 Eclipse
Component speakers - Focal 165K2P K2
Amp for tweeters - Arc Audio 4050 bridged 180W to each TN52 Focal tweeter mounted on the door up high and forward.
2 amps for the mids - Kenwood 7201 bridged 460W to each Focal K2P K2 6.5 mid, mounted in the doors (not stock locations)
Subs - MTX 1501d 1500W to 2 12" Alpine Type-R's in a slant faced box behind the seats (reg cab)

Bout all I can say is 8" in the doors, still maintained factory appearance.
I will post some pics of them later down the road but don't have any pics just yet. I think I am going to cut out the grill like you did on your doors to give them a touch more clearance on the excursion since they tend to want to hit the door panel on those rare occasions when i get a bit frisky on the volume ****.

Infinity Speakers

This is my first time on any message board. Anyway I was wondering if anybody has a opinion of the Infinity REF 6800cs speakers. They are the 6x8 (5x7) size. I have found some good deals but can't tell if they are selling one system or a pair. Crutchfield looks like only company to sell them in pair (which will make them the cheapest.

I've been considering putting some IDQ8's in some small sealed enclosures under the dash firing down and to the center of the cab for midbass (50hz to 200hz) and letting the focals in the door play above 200hz so they don't distort from all the bass at high volumes like they do now.
What 8" speakers are you using? How are they powered?
Are you using them as midbass or just with a tweeter as a 2 way setup?

8" Kicker in doors with sound deadening..
I went with the Kicker because it is very shallow. There is not a lot of room to do a deep speaker in our doors without cutting the plastic door panel.

Here's mine. Finally got the pics up. I did install my tweets in the windshield pillar and am happy with the sound. The soundstage is about head level with it this way and I don't notice any imaging issues between the tweets and mids.

I am using the Kicker Resolution 8" drivers in the door because they are so darn thin 2 3/4 inch if memory serves me. I have them in an aperiodic enclosure and currently I run them in conjuction with 2 Veritas Accuwave HLCD's mounted under the dash for the mid to upper end. I have the 8" crossed running 35-800hz then the HLCD's pick it up at 750hz and up. It images superbly but the soundstage is a little narrow. I will be adding in an additional set of tweets mounted in the door panel up top near the A pillars which I will robably start at about 12Khz and up to help widen the soundstage.

The RMB8's seem to be a good value for midbass in our trucks, I see a lot of guys using them.
My Focals play quite loud (which I like) unless I cross them low enough for decent midbass, then they bottom out. So I need a midbass driver that will keep up with them.
Since you have horns, which can get very loud, do you feel the kickers can keep up with them volume wise? Do the RMB8's bottom out with a lot of power going to them?
I have read that aperiodic enclosures take some loudness away (the drivers don't play as loud). Do you think that's the case with your system?
How many watts are you pushing them with?
I cant use kicks or horns

The kickers keep up with the horns fine with 65w RMS to each.
No, I haven't had problems bottoming them out but again, I don't have them loaded with tons of power either.
The aperiodics take some loudness away but since the RMB's are mounted right there in the door this has not been a real big issue at least to my system, but loudness depends on the listener's opinion of loud. My max SPL is only in the 120-125 db range. Which IMO is LOUD, but simply because at that level the mids and high's are screaming like you wouldn't believe so you get that concert deafness (you know cotton in the ears feeling) really fast listening at those levels.
Aperiodics in your system, unless done in the doors I don't think would be a good solution for you unless you took the other route and did the through the floorpan style mount with the membrane firing outside the cab. Actually, this would be the best way for you to really make your midbass up front shine. Either one 8 or 10" running a summed mono signal dead center (on the hump) of the floorpan firing up, or one on each side floorboard firing up. If you went this route you would achieve some phenominal effects. Your soundstage height would actually image higher, wider and with more depth than you could imagine. Although this mounting option does not always appeal to many people since you have to modify the truck so heavily but it is truly an awesome setup. I do think however that if you do decide to fire them down you are going to probably experience some cancellation trouble that will need to be worked out through wire phasing and x-over points while watching results on an RTA. Once you get that done the height will not be dreadful but you may get a little bit of the layering effect since they will basically be firing down. If I were you I would just go ahead and go all out for sound and choose the through floorpan option. I am pretty sure that is what I will be doing before long since I could always weld a steel plate back over the hole and replace the carpet if I ever decided to sell the truck anyway, or I could just leave the sub there. I am wanting to change around my sub box for a 12" upward firing from the center of the floorpan. Anyway, the best imaging cars I have heard have either had the midbass in the doors or in the floor firing up.

What size/thickness are you guys using for your adapters? I did this in my last truck and it worked, but I think my adapter was a little too thick. It was a close fit getting the the door panel back over.
