You didn't mention if you had an amp. Your going to need an amp to run subs. There are amps with line level inputs so you could still use the stock head unit. It all depends on how much you want to get into it. There will be plenty of people who say you need to get an aftermarket HU, but if it suits you, you can make do.
Good Luck.

I put in a level converter so I could hook up my 300 watt amp and 15" sub. It works pretty well, you just have to know which wires to splice into. I spliced into the rear speaker wires behind the radio in the dash. I think the following link is still aplicable for most if not all ford cars and trucks....

You can pick up a level converter at most car stereo shops. Just tell em what you want to do and they should know what to get ya.
Hope this helps.

If your amplifier has high level inputs, use them. Mine didn't, so I am using this level converter. I spliced into the right front speaker (only need one) so that I could turn the level of the rear speakers down and not affect the bass output. If you aren't changing door speakers, the right front is pretty easy to get to by pulling up the door plate trim and the interior trim piece in the passenger footwell. Splicing thwe wires is kind of tight, though.
