anyone have these...?
anyone have these...?
Pioneer TS-A6880R 6" x 8" 4-Way Speakers - How do you like them - how do they sound - how do they fit - can you put 4 of these in a Lightning without overkill...?
thanks-
thanks-
A 4-way 6x8? That is highly unecessary and probably doesn't sound very good. The crossovers on most plate speakers pretty poor, if they even have any. When you add more speakers, the crossover network either gets more complex, or the frequencies overlap because the crossovers are inadequate which is probably the case with these cheaper plate speakers.
A good tweeter should have no problems playing a mooth flat response from 5000Hz up to 20kHz which is higher that we can hear anyway. A good midrange of 5.25" or 6.5" should have no problem with 100Hz over 5000Hz.
How much are those speakers? If oyu want a simple plate speaker, I recommend the Crystal Mobil Sound CXe 570 for $64/pair. I am certain it is a better speaker than any Pioneer.

Can you help I know nothing about this stuff... what would you recommend as a good combo for replacing my Lightning stock speakers and then adding one subwoofer and an amp -
What's a good sub to go with those crystals and what's a good amp to push everything - cost effective of course...
thanks

Well, I always say start with a budget and go from there. I can recommend a good sub for $80, or I can recommend a good one for $500. To somebody, they are both cost effective. Same with an amp. Next Q, what do you want to acomplish with the stereo? Just want something decent to listen to around town or trips I assume?
I used to have a Contour with the same 6x8 crappy speakers as F-150's. A few of them purchased those Cyrstals and are very pleased. Never heard a complaint, and for the installation - it is just a screw in plate speaker. May need to drill new mounting holes, though.
For the amp, I recommend a 4 channel to power the front speakers and bridge the two rear channels to power a sub. 4-channel is easier to adjust and hook up. Make sure it has both high and low pass crossovers. Depending on your budget, I can recommend a few. I would leave the rear speaker stock and either disconnect them or turn their level down. An amplified set of front speakers and a sub is all most people need, especially in a regular cab. And is makes it easier to install.
How handy are you with electronics? There may be ways to get you even better front speakers if you are willing to pick your own component parts. But we can work with simplicity too.
I'll have to research regular cab boxes and mounting depths. A good single 10" driver is all most people need.
