well I added some bushwacker fender flares to my truck this weekend. as some of you may know bushwacker dosn't sell fender flares designed for our trucks in a flareside. well I have seen that the fleetsides had the same arch as my flareside so I desided to take a gamble and buy ne a set of some designed to fit the fleetside bed. I found a great deal on ebay and bought me a set. when I got them I found out they almost fit perfect but have a gap just above the steps and needed to be trimmed in a arch to alow the gas cover to open and close. then I desided to trim the aria from the step down to help reduce the gap just above the step. this trimming took alot of work and is optional as it will fit without the trimming. after that I had to relocate the mounting holes under the flares because the flares sit a little further in on the fender than on a fleetside. but it all came to gether and fits great. heres some pics.

Very nicely done and the truck looks sweet! I guess that chance you took paid off!
Unless the paint is scratched down to bare metal, I think it will be a while before it starts to rust. Especially with the quality of paints used these days.

well I could see some dirt getting behind the gap but I dont see what it could do to the paint. anuthing that did get in there would just fall to the bottom of the flare and drain out when washed. if the paint gets dirty under there it won't hurt it it will wash off if I aver deside to take them off. and it definitely wont rust as the bed side is not metal it is composite which dosn't rust.

 

Dude thats nice, opening new doors for flaresides. Now they dont have to wait for bushwacker.

 

Bushwacker flares have been around forever. I don't know that I've ever heard of any rust problems resulting from them. If I were a betting man, I would bet there is something like double sided tape that somewhat seals them around the perimeter.

At any rate, the beds on flaresides are composite, no rust issues there.

I have seen very few trucks that I like the Bushwacker flares on, but I think they look great on your truck. I may even have to take back what I said about not liking the flareside on FX4s. That looks really nice. You did a great job trimming around the gas filler.
