Hardwiring Starmate 5?

i have an brand new Starmate 5 which is probably like 2 years old now but i never opened the box until yesterday

was thinking of installing it into my 2001 XLT but the thing is, i hate the fact that you need to use the stupid ciggerette lighter as the power supply, on the 2001 there is the little door that covers the cig lighters, with the Sirius plug in the door can no longer close, so it looks pretty mickey mouse even running the wire up through the dash

i know it says not to, but is it possible to just cut the cig lighter wire and splice it into the 12V connection my deck runs off?

If it's a 5 volt device (which I believe it is) you need to use the included power plug. You can buy one of those Y adapters and cut one off and hardwire the cut end. Then you can plug in the adapter and hide it.

If you want to just hardwire the power check this link out.

If you have an "AUX" button on your stereo you may want to use this:

I've been using the XM5FRD04 for the past 5 years with my Starmate 4. Works great, had NO problems.
