Warning for all XM users

If you have an account with XM and decide to drop it, or have not decided on renewing it make sure you call XM and cancel your subscription or they will try to charge a renewal to your credit card without notice, and at the full subscription rate.

This guy isn't joking. Unless you call and tell them to quit charging your credit card, they will keep on doing it without telling you!!!!!

I'm confused here. How would they know you quit listening unless you called them or cut off your account on the internet? Satellite radio is only a one way service just like satellite tv. They just send signal.

i think he is more referring to the automatic renewal than just stopping listening. esp after you get the first 3 months free or whatever on a new car, i warn all my customers of this at my dealership, so they dont fet pissed at me

Yes that is what I was refering to. I stopped using my xmcommander when I got rid of the truck and didn't expect them to automatically renew my subscription since I did not ever give them the authorization to.

I am sure if you read the fine print of your agreement (or paid attention to the person on the phone), if you give them a credit card you authorize automatic billing. It probably says something like, your trial period ends 90 days from activation, unless your account is cancelled at the end of your trial period, you will be charged $x.xx per month to your credit card on file.

It's standard boilerplate for trial services. XM and Sirius are big companies trying to garner customers. They won't do that very well if they fraudulenly bill unsuspecting customers.

You gave them a credit card number. You should understand fully what they plan to do with it BEFORE you give them your number.

They also aren't mindreaders, if you sell the radio or the truck containing the radio, you can expect to be billed until you tell them to stop.

I was not on a free trail plan, and when I signed up I made sure the person I was giving the info to was completely and clearly informed I was NOT to be put on any form of automatic billing and the use of my card was to be used on that single transaction only. So with that being said they didn't need to be mindreaders because I told them I ONLY wanted 1 year of sub and would make up my mind to continue at that point.

The XM folks called my farm one day when they didn't recieve the renewal form they sent out (the farm was payin the bill). My uncle told them that we weren't going to renew it. We found out 2 months later that they decided to bill us for it anyway. So, he called them back and explicitly told them to quit charging the credit card. The XM still works though!!! So I don't know yet if they actually quit charging us.

Chester's right.... It just happened to me last week. When I got my XM radio first of all they billed me twice for the initial start up. It was a major PITA to have them credit back the credit card. After a lengthy conversation with the representative for XM she made it very clear to me after I asked if my card would be automatically billed that it would not be that they do not do that, wether that's the case or she was just blowing smoke up my a$$ I don't know. I plan on keeping my XM but was wanting to use a different credit card because I've transfered my balance to a card with a lower APR. I was never contacted saying that my service was up either by mail or telephone they just automatically assumed I wanted another three months, what if I wanted to sign up for a year they wouldn't know that or make things easier on themselves by asking. XM's customer service is horrible but I enjoy using their service so I will just have to try and find a happy medium with that and speak really slowly to the idiots at their customer service desk(anyone who has called them knows what I'm talking about).

I don't want people making my decisions for me.
I have too much to do, to be worrying about people charging me for crap without my permission. I'm glad every company doesn't do this.

If your so busy why do you want to call them every month and tell them to charge your card?? Why not just do it once and forget about it, especially if you intend to keep your service going? 90% of all companies DO do this. They charge you unless they are notified otherwise

Those shmucks at xm couldn't even credit me the right amount. Glad I have capital one I'll let them deal with it. I don't have another hour to waste on hold with xm.

I didn't. I told them to give me one year's worth of subscription. That's all I paid for, cause I thought I might get tired of it. They took it upon themselves to charge my credit card again.
