You guys should check into a service offered by MBNA - when you use the card for anything (including on-line purchases) they will issue a 1 time use # that is linked to your account.

The merchant checks the #, it works (if your credit is good, obviously) and you get your purchased goods or services.

The card # they have is now void, however, and they will not be able to charge against it again.

MBNA offers this at no charge, so I think the other creditors would have something similar to offer as well - probably saves them hassles like you all are describing.

Just an alternative to those annoying cancellation phone calls...

That's great, but XM is the only company I've ever had any trouble with.

When I signed up for XM, I bought the one-year subscription. They told me that after 12 months, they will start billing me monthly (At full-price). Now whether that means charging my card or sending me a bill, that remains to be seen.

However, between the time I signed up and now, someone stole that credit card number from me and my credit card company sent me a card w/ a new number, so they won't have any luck automatically charging me. (I'm also not so sure it wasn't the dumb b**ch at XM who stole it or not)

What you should do is call them before your subscription expires and sign up for another year so you can get the reduced rate. Especially since you can cancel any time and get a refund of your unused subscription.

But when I signed up, I noticed they purposely priced things so you would need a credit card to sign up. Meaning their gift cards/etc wouldn't add up to match a subscription price. I don't know what happens if you have more than the subscription amount in gift cards, if they still request a card number or not.
