Sirius Antenna help
Sirius Antenna help
Hi all. I've got some serious issues with my Sirius signal dropping out. I had XM before and switched to Sirius because of the NFL. When i had XM I had the antenna mounting inside the cab no problems with signal quality. With the Sirius unit..MAJOR drop out. I live in Northern Cali so I'm not sure if that affects the signals for Sirius since most of the thread are from people on the east coast. If you have any pics of the antenna mounting through the 3rd brake light, I'd really appreciate them.
Thanks

It is extremely easy to run it through the 3rd brake light on the '04 and up F-150's. Just remove the 2 screws and you will see a large hole in the sheetmetal where you can push the wire through towards the back of the headliner. Go inside the cab and grab the end of the plug. I tucked mine in along the headliner then followed the driver's side between the headliner and the plastic trim pieces. I then followed the weatherstripping along the A-pillar, under the dash then to the unit. The only problem that I had was with a leaky brake light. See this post for a soultion https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=222495
Do a search on this topic and you will come up with tons of information. Off the top of my head...you might want to run a bead of silicon around your antenna.
As far as signal drop out....XM has better satellites in space and their antennas are a little more advanced than that of Sirius. This is why you are experiencing drop outs with Sirius and not XM.

Rain,
I ran the antenna out the firewall, and placed it under the cowl on the right side. It works pretty well here in Northern California.
The day after I did it I spent alot of time in my truck (drove from Vacaville to Tracy, and back then Vacaville to Brentwood & back). The whole time I was driving (approx 7 hours) I experienced about 10 minutes of lost signal.
I think I still need to play with the location a little, as I do experience some signal loss while driving in town.
Hope this helps!
Regards!
By the way I do have Sirius!

The antenna needs to be on the roof for your best signal. I ran thru the 3rd light also.I cut a slit in the rubber wire plug and it held the antenna wire great , when I pushed the plug back into the hole it sealed up tight against the wire. Be sure when you go to put the light back in place the seal is in place and hasn't moved on you. Also a dab of chaulking around the riubber plug works also. I live in N.Oregon so i made damn sure I had no leaks. 14 straight days of rain since I installed it and no leak yet..........I get drop off on roads with tall timber along them. But all in all I get aa 99.9% of the time signal.
Just playing around friday evening, I re-located my antenna on top of the cowl. I used two-way tape. The reception is awesome compared to the under cowl install.
I didn't take any pains to hide the wire, so I won't bother with pics.
I wish some resourceful guys would develop a cool billet antenna mount for the cowl, or even a molded plastic mount...or carbon fiber?
I just haven't had the ***** to route the antenna out the brake light.
