There are a lot of misconceptions about plug and play FM modulated units. In some cars, yes the reception is less than desirable. This is n't the case in most installs, but it does happen from time to time. WHen this does happen, I install a hard wired switch activated in-line FM modulator that provides perfect, crystal clear sound without any background static or other noise. The benefit I have found in the plug and play beyond the ability to carry it from car to car is that it displays title and artist on the same screen all the time. You don't have to switch the screen to see who sang it or what it is called. I personally have 5 units active. I have one Generation 2 Audiovox unit, 3 Generation 3 audiovox units, and 1 Factory install (i did myself) I don't personally care for the factory install, it only tells you the song name and not the artist, and doesn't have some other features I have become accustomed to with the plug and play unit.
