You need this crazy little tool for disconnecting the fuel line. Go to any auto parts store and buy it for $10-$15 (I got the K-D #3321). Then PATIENTLY work the end of the tool in to the end of the fuel line until you hear or feel it click. Maintain pressure on the tool, so as not to let the lock re-engage, and carefully work the line off of the filter. It may take a little trying, but once you get the hang of it, it's like learning to ride a bicycle. When installing the new filter, make sure you hear or feel the line click to engage the new fittings.

Post fuel filter replacement

I was starting to replace my fuel filter on my '94 at 65,000 miles. I carefully removed the bracket, then the snap on clamps that hold the fuel line fitting to the filter inlet and outlet. I really had difficulty getting the hose to come off. The filter rotates easily around by hand. I didnt want to break anything,so I put it back the way it was. What am I doing wrong? Is there some way to get the hoses to come off the filter? Thanks for any help.

You probably have the "Duck Bill" type of connector. Fordman's desciption is good. Don't get the cheap plastic slip-on type tool, they won't fit between the filter and the fitting - too long of tool. I used what looks like a goofy looking scissors, made of metal, with two half-cylinders on each end. Slip around tube, with longer half-cylinder into fitting as you put it around, then the shorter half. It is double ended, because it fits two different tube sizes. Got at O'reilly for $10 or so. Should last a lifetime.
