New here with a question.

Hey everyone, I do not own a F-150, but I have a question regarding my fiance's brother. He has a 2002 FX4 extended cab, long bed. He was in an accident a couple of days ago. He took off around a corner, his back end got loose, spun around, and hit a tree with the back side of his bed. But his airbag covers popped off, and the air bags didn't deploy. What happened here?! The airbags shouldn't have been involved at all since the damage was to the rear, correct? And even though they were activated, why did the covers pop off, and not the air bags??

Just wondering if this was a common flaw.

Thanks in advance,

David

air bags pop when conditions are determined that the driver/passenger's bodies are stopping too fast. That could be stopping side to side. There have been a few rare issues of the air bag not poping when it should. It would be worth the time and peace of mind to have a dealership look things over. The covers may have just had the tabs broken on them, due to the sliding impact.

Did both covers pop off? or only the steering wheel one?
