Has administration ever considered a Chat option ?

 

Many many moons ago, we had one and it simply wasn't utilized... I wouldn't be opposed to it again...

Anyone else see this as a potentially beneficial thing for the site that you'd utilize?

 

I'm not sure exactly how it would work. Maybe you longtime members that know what the chat was like, know better from past experience.
A newer version may (or may not) be used by more of us.

Seems like there is no interest, considering the lack of responses.

Between all the existing IRC services out there today, is there a reason to recreate the wheel ?

The profile has the fields for YIM, Google Chat, etc.

If chat is a desirable item, why not fill out these fields and you can just ping someone ( somebodies ) on it and start a chat window.
Don't know if a thread for scheduling group chats ( if people want to join 1 big open call chat ) would be OK with the site admins / mods.

The chat before was open on some night ( TUE & THUR after 6:00 PM CT / 7:00 PM ET ) and you could join in to a big open call chat window.
Kind of useless with 5 conversations going on at the same time or it was completely dead. I only tried it a few times ( < 20 ), found a group open call window to be kind of useless, but that is just my opinion.

The good part about the URL above, you can see everything going on, if you are joining late.

 

For what it's worth, I highly doubt that it would get utilized as a ford truck based chat. The pessimist in me can see a more negative effect if it was not closely monitored by a mod. Things can get ugly in chat rooms in a hurry, and spill over into the regular forum.

I vote no, if it's a democratic system.

 

i don't see the necessity in the chat feature. canadianelbow has a good point and i agree with what he has mentioned
