So IB, what happened?
From the Pink Floyd song Comfortably Numb:
Hello, hello hello (echo)
Is there anybody in there,
Just nod if you hear me,
Is there anyone at home
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkJNyQfAprY
This is just ridiculous. So what other websites does Internet Brands have so I can avoid them? I expect the answer will take hours for somebody to post.
FWIW, I'm on commercial DSL and this was a 40 minute but whoopin'. Not acceptable.

Well, it looks like things might not be real good for IB. From the SEC filings, the management has been disposing stock by the several hundred thousands of shares.

While the financial statement looks like they are in profit, it doesn't take much on the part of management to gut the cash out of a company. While I also realize that it is common for officers to buy and sell stocks of their company, this seems to be a one way street with "dispose" a common word on the SEC filings. Anyway, I'm sure they feel like they owe the folks that post no explanation as to why the site is all but non-functioning, the advertisers might want to know that the advertising they are paying for is not getting out. You might want to remind the folks that you deal with about the issues here.

Seems to be working very well now. I wish the adminstration would put out an explanation. We have been told there was an attack on the servers that breeched the firewall. Most if not all IB forums were taken down, and there are many.

Somebody must be making money. I have no idea how much money is behind this site but it is amazing that money can be made from these tiny little forums and websites. I hope Steve got at least 6 figures for it when he sold it.
It is sad... but if Internet Brands goes under and they do not sell this site to someone else right away, this site could go away for a while if not forever. The breach of the firewall I do not fully believe. I would lean towards they do not have enough money or care to properly secure the site, or can't afford to run it properly.

The site goes down for a day or so and suddenly the company is at the cusp of folding and everyone is going to loose their ability to use it, eh? Wow.... simply wow.
Nike.com went down a few weeks ago. Anyone notice?
If IB would sell it to me, I'd buy it in a heartbeat and put it up on some much better equipment and no more ADs!
The outage is the much smaller portion of that guess as to what could happen in the future. The financial activity of Internet Brands is the large portion. I'm not saying that it will happen. It is probably just a small possibility. I don't want it to happen but I have not seen good things in this recession.
I'm thinking it may have been a bug/virus or whatnot that couldn't be pinpointed right away, maybe a sort of progressive one. I don't know, but that might explain the slowdowns, then outage.
Finding the problem can't be easy, but I bet it's closer to being handled at this point.

That would never happen, the no more ads statement. They make thousand"s" of dollars a month on ads, trust me, having run such large forums sites they are big money makers and to pay for dedicated servers you would need income as well as a full time income for yourself considering you would spend most your time managing it.

We really want to apologize for the downtime suffered over the last two days. Unfortunately our Internet Brands network was targeted with a series of cyber attacks that severely limited access over this time period. Our tech team has worked around the clock to resolve the issue. We absolutely appreciate your patience and understanding and do apologize for the inconvenience caused by the attack.

The question is did they really get attacked, or did they finally find the problem and just wanted to blame someone else?
Either way im glad to have you guys back and have the forums back up
I'm sure we'll over time get a better explanation as to what the outage was all about. A lot of us actually care about about this site and would like to know more.
Like many others have said if this site goes away it will be like throwing away a wealth of information and friendships forever. None of us wants that.
