AOL e-mail
AOL e-mail
Why does the site not send E-Mails to AOL addy.? I have the spam filter set to show all E-Mails.
I wanted to change my E-Mail addy. to AOL, because I can't get my insightbb mail. I had to set my E-Mail to my phone just to post this.
Here is the E-Mail I sent Doug and his reply:
I sent:
I changed my E-Mail addy on F150, but it will not send the E-Mail to update it. So now I can't post because my acct. is not active.
Screen name is olefafl new E-Mail is olefafl@aol.com
The old one was olefafl@insightbb.com (I had/have hard drive problems and can't get my insightbb mail)
Thanks
Mike

I tried that but it still didn't sent the E-Mail.

Welcome to the wonderful world of f150online versus AOL.
If you take a peek at the posts more or less since 01-15, on several subjects dealing with recent problems, you will find at least mine posted several times under different threads that deal with the same problem or other problems.
Steve is a friend of mine and occasional customer in my store and he is my best buddy so you will understand that I am in no way throwing rocks his way.
However, there does seem to be a conflict between certain AOL users, perhaps those that have the latest version with all the spam filters etc. and the new server for this forum.
In my case, I may be lucky as the way I have my providers set up I can access this forum from two other ISPs and the email function works without a hitch and the loading of f150online is more or less instantaneous as opposed to what I get from time to time on AOL.
I believe Stever is the innocent party here but it is still an issue I guess if AOL is your only provider. I have given up trying to tweak my settings as it has given me no change in the problems I have experienced.
Gotta love the internet.
Bill

Echoing what Bill said, in a sense. There is absolutely nothing we can do if AOL is blocking email sent by this site. Our email server is non-discriminatory, it will send out email to any email address, regardless of the recipient or even the validity of the address. I think the timing of the move to the new server and the failure of AOL to deliver email is a coincidence, as we, literally, are using the exact same configuration and software version to send mail as we were on the old server.
Simply put, we have no control, technical or otherwise, over what happens to the message once our server sends it out. You need to contact AOL and find out what the problem is and how to resolve it. I know this sounds like I am blowing you off, but I am not because in this case, there really is nothing that we can do. I don't think it is realistic to ask people to change ISP's just to access this site, but it may be realistic to recommend setting up a Hotmail account (or similar) to use for this site.

I'm not blaming anybody, just wanted to know what was going on. I have a high-speed cable modem through Insight and only use AOL for email due to ease of use - hate Outlook. I will see if I can get an older version of AOL and try it. I do run AOL 9.0 but the spam filters are set to show all email and not block any.
You can always sign up for a free email account such as yahoo or hotmail and then use that address on this site. I use AOL as my provider but rarely use that email as the yahoo one is the one I use the most.
By the way, I refuse to use the new AOL 9.0 again. I used it and had a horrible time with it. I uninstalled and went back to the 8.0 and haven't had a problem yet.

You could use your insight email here and the issue that AOL has with F150 wouldnt matter .......
https://memberservices.insightbb.com...MemberServices
Most ISP's have a web interface yoiu can use to get your email - I cant see if insight has on or not but that would be an option...
Also you can use any email client you want with most ISP's
You can use Outlook express or Outlook or any of the other email clients out there - just get the aco**** set up correctly and you are golden.....

I went to the insight link and was able to get on 1 time, after that all I get is "500 Internal Server Error".
That is the norm with insight. (at least mine, they suck here)
The 1 time I was in, I set it to forward the E-Mail, it works. But I still don't get the F150 E-Mail.

The email is working - For some reason AOL is blocking it
Steve has reverse DNS working correctly
You should complain to AOL - You are the customer they might listen to you....

I am going to type something here which will possibly get me in trouble with two people I consider friends, but...................
You guys made the decision to transition to another provider or whatever. There have been numerous improvements to the site or to you guys, I don't really know. There have also been numerous problems associated with that "migration". I am the furthest thing you can imagine from a computer expert
but I know problems when I see them.
In essense, we are being told that we have to complain to what I understand is the largest ISP in the world because we have problems with email notification, load up times and perhaps a couple of other issues.
My question to you guys is why do you not contact AOL, for example and this seems not to be the only provider that we now have problems with, and as a web site manager ask them how your "customers" can return to the service level we enjoyed two weeks or so ago.
Understand well, my friends, this was the first website I ever bookmarked now some 5 years ago. I have no wish to cause you problems but I don't really have the time to bookmark any site on multiple providors simply because your site cannot interact with AOL which may I say again is the 800 pound gorilla when it comes to internet access.
Don't beat up on me either, my friends, I am on your side but I am not liking some of your "solutions?.
And if Raoul jumps this thread, I do not intend to access this site from some of our Thai or Ukranian sites. I do not like dealing with the riffraff that he and I are associated with who are into white slavery and a whole lot of other interesting stuff which we are not allowed to talk about.
Totally off subject, but just now I am enjoying a feature that AOL offers which are CD quality songs that you can background while you are typing all this trash. Just now I have listened to almost an hour of Bollywood which is Indian music uncluding a lot of Hari Krishna stuff. Can't get that on BellSouth.net.

Bill,
I am not the least bit offended, nor will your feedback get you in trouble. I completely understand what you are saying and sense your frustration, but please re-read what I wrote above.
As far as email goes, the new server is configured in the exact same way as the old server. AOL blocking our email has nothing to do with the server migration, the timing is just coincidental. Every other problem that has cropped up since the move, that we have control over, has been resolved. Overall peformance is something that we have some control over, we are located in a very "hot" datacenter and our server is 10 times more powerful than our old server, which all adds up to better speed up until the point where we leave our datacenter.
How AOL "routes" requests to our new server, again, is completely out of our control. Not moving was simply not an option, even if we knew that some AOL users would be affected. There may be some internet "accelerator" software that could speed things up, but I don't know for sure.
While I could contact AOL and ask what is going on and demand changes, I doubt I would get very far. Realistically ask yourself who carries more influence with that gorilla, a random website that is, in the grand scheme of things, tiny, or a paying customer that has the option to leave AOL for another ISP if they are not satisfied with their service? I think the answer is obvious. Factor in that only a handful of our users are having problems and the answer becomes even more obvious.

Here is a theory as to why there may be performance problems for some AOL users. My guess is that AOL, in an attempt to increase the perceived load times of sites, operates caching servers in different parts of the world. These servers essentially maintain copies of bits of information from sites accessed by their users. It's possible that the bits and pieces that AOL are caching are somehow referencing our old IP address. This is just a theory, and one that would, theoretically, pertain to any of the larger ISP's out there. Any engineers care to comment?

Connectivity Questions
Q. Our IP address was just changed and our AOL visitors are experiencing a DNS error. When does AOL update it's DNS to see new IP's?
A. AOL's DNS servers respect TTL (the Time To Live). Check with your previous Internet service provider as to the setting value of the old TTL. When that value expires, AOL's DNS will then propagate the new IP address
