Post About.com pop windows...

I have been getting this a lot of complaints today about this, and I can only really answer it one way ...

"Let's call it a one month experiment - their ad agency contacted F-150
Online as a participant in that campaign - and what else can I say but, 'I
have to pay the bills.'"

The first part of the year is incredibly slow with advertising (ie 1,000,000 ad impressions *may* equate to $1000, my
monthly cost in running the site now is almost that) and they are willing to pay me for this...if I get enough
complaints, I will certainly remove it.

All I can ask that you please hang in there and don't leave.

Steve

Well Steve, to me, this is a form of spamming, and I HATE spamming...BUT...I LOVE this site, and I understand about making ends meet. If you need it to help pay the bills, then do what you have to do. I can live with minimizing it when it pops up...and I'm sure everyone else can too. So much for the "advertising" huh?

UPDATE!

Here is the copy I sent to the add agency this morning that was handling this campaign...

I have chosen to remove the about.com ad campaign from my site, F-150 Online.

In the fewer than 18 hours it has been active, I have received over 50 complaints
about it being intrusive and/or annoying or been forced to field questions about
browser problems. I do not want to offend my loyal user base or scare off any
potential new users.

Thank you for considering F-150 Online and if About.com chooses a less intrusive
method of advertising in the future, please consider us.

Regards,

Steve Eppinger

Steve,
Can you delete my thread in the GD section (the locked one "About.com") as I can no longer see what useful purpose it serves.

Steve,

I fully understand about paying the bills and soon realized what the problem was.

Probably the main complaint is that such a window is more like a "Big Brother" watching and we certainly have enough of that today in government.

I personally would much rather click on your advertisements voluntarily every time I access F150online and have done so many times in the past. I am sure most of your other regular people would prefer do this also on a regular volunteer basis. And the pop up window is certainly not a reason to leave F150online at all.

A reminder to us all on the main page for a voluntary "click advertisers/pay the bills" would probably be met with good results and better attitudes.

Either way I am here for the duration!!

This is also one of my #1 sites to ck out. The pop up ad was starting to give me the flips. I would pay 10.00 to 20.00$ a year for a membership to keep it going and not have to put up with the popup. As for now it looks like monkey brains for dinner again
