search issues

I have been unable to search for the last couple of days. Finally figured out the problem.

If you enter the word "Ford" in any searches, you get:

"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 12 bytes) in /usr/local/apache/sites/f150online.com/htdocs/forums/admin/db_mysql.php on line 154

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 11 bytes) in Unknown on line 0"

Now why I insisted on putting the word "Ford" into the "Ford" site here I'll never know. Searches work fine if you leave that word out.

I just wanted to let someone know....

I was just getting ready to start a thread on the same issue...

Anything that I type in yields no results... including doing a search by user...

How 'bout now? Just tweaked a configuration setting and searched on "Ford" and came up with 49,000+ results...

Just as a follow up and observation...

When I search by member, it works now...

When I search for an individual word, it seems to work... when I put in multiple words, it just defaults to the 'Couldn't Find Anything...'

Searching for:

Tonneau Instructions
Tonneau Installation

I know that it exists as seen here .. but, it yields the following error message...

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

Interesting that the word 'Tonneau' is not the problem.

Nothing found message occurs on

'Installation' and 'Instructions'

Ok, I have the answer.

Our minimum search word length is set at "4" characters.
Our maximum search word length is set at "10" characters.

So, any word more than 10 characters long is not indexes, so it's not that search is "broke" rather it is working as it is supposed to.

Now that we are on a faster server, I am going to look into expanding these to "3" and "12" ... though rebuilding the search index will likely take two days.

As a sidebar, I start to shiver whenever I see you two in the same thread. Add Bill into the mix and I don't know how I'd react.

Actually, Raoul and I are in the process of organizing a 'good cop/bad cop' scenario to use against you Steve. Watch your back kid.

Actually I intended to stay off this thread for the simple reason I never use the search function. By asking the same question for the 384th time I get to increase my post count by an average of 4-5 as I get to answer all the folks who tell me to use search.

In fact I would not have been aware of this thread if I had not gotten email notifications via Blue Oval News and Fordtruckworld.com regarding other posts on f150online that I had flagged. See, email notification doesn't work for me here but somehow I get notification on their sites about posts on this site.
Never mind, I have a dog post I have to do now.
