Angry Loading on AOL

For two days now, It takes almost five minutes to load the Lightning thread direct on AOL (from my favorite places as well as directly). If I use Bellsouth.net, it loads immediately. Any ideas?
Also, the ad banners appear only irregularly on BellSouth.net and always on AOL. Why?

Simple answer. Can AOL! Most of my friends who sign up on AOL drop it after experiencing a host of problems. And good luck getting all the AOL junk off your computer! It is like an octopus with 8,000 little arms!

AOL absolutely sucks, I don't know why people still use it. And yes it is difficult to get all of the crap off of your pc and it can screw up your normal isp. I hate em, I hate em, I hate em!!!

I'd be concerned about AOL simply because they practice "filtering". For example, newsgroups thru AOL remove explicit material. Not that I condon XXX but it should be up to the user not the isp. What they might be doing is filtering all webpages, I don't know. my .02

Exclamation

People use AOL because they get a CD that autoloads all the BS on your computer.
My view on AOL "never had it never will"
Some other ISPs are making you install thier software packs.
No thanks! Give me my username, password and local access # and I'll do the rest.
I'll use the browser of MY choice not the one they want me to use.
This is why i love my new ISP duesouth.net
No bull, just the basics.
BTW they also email me without me having to email them first when they are slow, letting me know whats wrong and what they are doing to fix it.
They had some problems when Floyd was here but so were all ISPs.
I didn't understand all the jargon but it made me feel better knowing someone dowm there was on the case.
The guys I talked to down there when I signed up spend way too much time in front of a computer screen but thats just the person for the job.
AOL has a bunch of beancounters that want to pop ad you to death when you log on.
Has anybody called AOL tech support?
Were they of any help?

You people forgot one thing: IF you are designing a web page (or other complicated task) and your (other) server "dumps" you, You can minimize the page and redial then hit "max" and keep on going, but if you are on aol you are SOL, because ALL your info is lost. Plus when/if you log back on you now have to close all the initial BS windows and reopen the window you were on when you got dumped in the first place, and START all over. aol is useless and the so-called customer support/service techs treat their customers like children.

AOL SUCKS!

I basically have to use them. So do the rest of the guys I work with. We travel all over the US and every little town out there has an AOL access number fairly close by.

But our motto is: AOL SUCKS!

There support SUCKS.

I've tried other ISP's but you can't always count on the availability. THAT IS ALL AOL HAS!

If you don't need it don't ever get it. I have programs that have been affected by AOL and you can't get them out....

Thanks I needed that
This gets almost as bad as road-rage..

Mark

Bill,
Sorry I forgot the question I got so wound up.

I am on line a lot with AOL and I think the time of day is the biggest thing. 8-10 eastern is the worst time. Things almost stop online. If you have the opportunity try a different time than you normally do.
The other thing I've seen but don't know why.

Good luck,
Another unhappy AOl user

The only way to get all of the AOL stuff off is to do the deed and reformat the hard drive.
Sorry but this is what must be done.

A little MS humor

God was fed up. In a crash of thunder He yanked up to Heaven three
influential men: Bill Clinton, Boris Yeltsin and Bill Gates.

"The human race is a complete disappointment," God boomed. "You each
have one week to prepare your followers for the End of the World."

With another crash of thunder they found themselves back on Earth.

Clinton immediately called his cabinet. "I have good news and bad news,"
he announced grimly. "The good news is that there is a God. The bad news
is, He's really mad and plans to end the world in a week."

In Russia, Yeltsin announced to parliament, "Comrades, I have bad news and
worse news. The bad news is that we were wrong; there is a God after all.
The worse news is He's mad and is going to end the world in a week."

Meanwhile, Bill Gates called a meeting of his top engineers. "I have good
news and better news. The good news is that God considers me one of the
three most influential men on Earth," he beamed. "The better news is we
don't have to fix WINDOWS 95."

I've got a solution for all of you fed up with AOL or any other phone line provider. Check with your local Warner Cable company for availability of the "Roadrunner" online service in your area. It runs through your existing coax cable (being online won't tie up the phone line) and runs 10 to 100 times faster than a standard service. Cost is about $40/month, plus installation (they add a network card to your computer and an external cable modem). The modem they provide is always "live" and there's no longer any wasted time dialing up. Just click your browser icon and you're there! I'll never go back. It's great.
