Attn Webmaster or Silver_2000_;)!

Doug or Steve, Im not out to cause trouble with this post so please dont take it that way. Today a member was Banned, I dont know this member or have any direct connection with this members business. I did purchase a product that this member was selling over 1 month ago. I hadnt recieved my product and have been exchanging emails with him over the last few days. I think this is prolly the reason that this member made the post he did, it seems several members of the board had not recieved their product. Guys I understand the idea about people coming on this board and selling things without being a supporting vendor, I totally agree with this However sometimes members are looking to help each other out, I feel this is maybe where a exception might be made. If I work for a company that sells widgets with Lightning emblems and I want to pass my connections to fellow enthusist, shouldnt I be able to without getting into trouble ? Im not doing this for any reason other than to help my fellow enthusist out. Alot of our members on this board work in different businesses, if we can help one another out, isnt that a benifit this board has to offer ? Like I said guys, Im not out to cause trouble, I just got what I feel is a great value from a fellow member and thought maybe I would voice my opinion. I know that you guys have reasons for doing the things you do, if there is something more to what Ive posted, then the ban is warranted

Here are the rules regarding vendors from our terms of service. This area is in bold text so people will read it. It is our responsibility to enforce the rules. It is the responsibility of any person that registers here to abide by the rules. If they choose to ignore them, or they don't feel they are fair, then they should not click on the "I Agree" button. There is little room for interpretation here.
VENDORS please note: If your intention on the message boards is to promote your products or service, please be sure to read all the messages regarding vendors, as well as the message board FAQ. Selling on the boards is strictly prohibited and rigorously enforced, with a single violation resulting in account termination. We define a vendor as any individual or company that sells a service or item for the purpose of profit, regardless of the volume or dollar value of that sale, whether incorporated or not. If you are here to simply converse with fellow Ford truck owners - enjoy!
One of the very reasons that this rule is in place is to avoid using these forums for business conversations back and forth. A business is a business. If you do something to make money, it's a business. Some idiots will probably reply that they are in place because of greed. Just ask our Supporting Vendors when I last sent them invoices and you will know that's not the case.

Under your example, you are passing along the name of a source of a product, great. An early post made by the banned vendor referenced the first person at least a dozen times, an example:
i made one of these for myself a week or so back and everyone seemed to love them and i have been making them for everyone... im not in it for making money although i do make a few $ on each one just for the time i spend in it...
When called on it that he broke our vendor rules, the next post started was:
well i got in trouble for saying i sell these.... so for the record i dont sell these.... but i know where u can get them.... so just email me
Well, which is it? I suspect, based on the first person references in the original post that the followup was CYA.

Bottom line, we enforced our rules based 100% on the information we found posted in our forums. Again, if this poster (registered last month) did not want to follow our rules, he should not have registered in the first place. I think the issue should be with him, not with us. Maybe you should email him and ask him if he always ignores the rules.

Steve thank you and that is fair enough, except for the last line which is in a smarty pants tone. The only email I exchanged with this person was regarding where my order was because it had been a while since my product was suppose to have been shipped. My next post was going to be a warning on the board that a member ripped me off, if I dont get my Plaque you can look forward to that post. Once again, thanks for the explaination.

Oh bummer I didn't know the guy got canned
That does suck,

I can truthfully say it seemed very innocent, and really started out by him simply showing us what he made FOR HIMSELF.
(I assume we're talking about Scott, cause I see the the post from today is gone) Then as usual we all started asking him to make us some. I even offered him a 20 spot.
Some of us "ME INCLUDED" e-mailed him "PRIVATELY" and gave him our info. This breaks no rules and happens everyday, but after reading what Steve just posted, ok it does seem like it got more than a suttle hint in the Post.

I DO agree rules were broken here, and seeing the quotes I guess there is no disputing it. But I still believe it started out very innocent, and truthfully don't think Scott realized he was walking a very thin line.
BUT
I do agree it was handled wrong and rules were broken.
I also think there are always exceptions to the rules, and I hope he's not canned permantly.

is he ?

I also believe the rules go that you are warned first,
and given a 2nd chance before you are canned
If he was warned, and giving that chance, then there's
nothing else to talk about, weather I agree or not.

Sorry - I have been busy upgrading the TALON board to the new version of Vbulletiun....

Scott is a local guy here in Dallas - He owns the shop he was advertisiing.

He has even stepped up to help the TALON club with some trophies at a good price - He is probobly a great guy. BUT that doesnt change the rules.

I warned him at least twice here at least once in email and once on the TALON board.

In his mind he wasnt making any money on them so its OK to market them here. We cant enforce rules based on % markup. While I sympathise with him and appreciate that he was trying to hook up some lightning owners.

Its not our issue if you choose NOT to make a profit. He could have asked about his options which MAY have included a group purchase - BUT that needs to be decided ahead of time....

As I told him his rights have been suspended for 2 weeks.

Moving to questions about the site

No questions just a comment, Please dont swap to the new version of Vbulletin on this site. I saw it on 3 other sites today and kinda dont like the change. Its much harder to navigate around the site on the newer version.

Gator- Welcome Back

how about the Lightning members make they're own rules and elect our own mods? I see no problem with that. as long as we don't post warez, **** and other things f150online could be liable for. I'm sure this is a shared idea among users.

Uhm, but isn't that counter to what the vendor rules say?

So, if he isn't selling them for a profit, what's the big deal?

Don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to be a d*ck (heh, this time!) but it seems like the rule posted says if you aren't making money, its ok...

Garrett -

Smart ***....

Read the group purchase rules. He could have / might have been a candidate for a group purchase. But to qualify for that ( in the rules) you basically have to send an email to Steve and explain your plan.

To use your example all a vendor has to do is "promise" that he isnt making any profit and he can sell what he wants ?? No sorry, but you can see where that woudlnt work. Should we are whether a vendor has good business skills( making a profit ) or not ?

I think whatr Steve meant was no matter if you are abig company or a small company whether you are making BIG money of the site or small money off the site - He pays BIG $$ for bandwidth and expects people to NOT take advantage of it to benefit themselves...

Doug

From 98cobra...
So, if he isn't selling them for a profit, what's the big deal?
From suspended vendor...
im not in it for making money although i do make a few $ on each one just for the time i spend in it...
From Dictionary.com...
prof·it n.

The amount received for a commodity or service in excess of the original cost.
No flame intended either, but where is there any confusion or room for interpretation here? The vendor flat out stated that they sell for profit and we enforced the rules. Seems like there is no gray area here whatsoever.
