Update:
Well, it's nothing to write home about, but I needed to buy it. A few years ago, my best buddy bought a 64 Ranchero, and wanted to build a hot rod out of it, so, he put up the money, and I put up the time, and we built a fun little ride. He dropped about $3k into a late 70's 302, and we used it for the powerplant. We had the heads worked by my favorite head machinist, put some TRW forged 10.5:1's in it, gave it a healthy cam, etc. He put less than 5000 miles on it in 2 years, and when he and his wife had their son, he decided that it just had to go. His father, a recently retired electrician, missed the hot rod days of his youth, and bought the Ranchero, strictly for the engine. He sold the rolling chassis for $100, and spent about $1000 more making a few changes to the engine (gear drive, different cam, roller rockers, etc.), wrapped in it plastic, and set it in the back of his garage, waiting for the right vehicle to come along. Since then, he's bought a 2001 Club Cab 4x4 F-150 Lariat, a motorhome, and a Jeep, and his wife said something has to go. Soooo, he asked me on Thanksgiving if I could find a buyer for the engine. I gave it some thought yesterday, and decided to make him an offer.
It's got at least $4000 worth of parts and machine work done to it, and is complete, from the new chrome oil pan (yuk), to the 750 Holley I built for it 3 years ago, and it's got less than 5k miles on it. He's throwing in everything he has for it, including the MSD 6A, so I offered him a grand for it, and he said okay.
Well, I picked everything up on Sunday, and I think I got a decent deal. The engine only has 1700 miles on it. The brand new rollers/cam/pushrods, chrome pan, and gear drive haven't ever been used. I got everything he had, including the performer RPM, an old 4-speed, 3 carbs, an extra cam/lifters/rockers/pushrods, flex fan, an electric fan, 3 engine gasket sets, 2 sets of valve covers, a MSD 6A & coil, mini starter, ARP kit, a couple boxes I haven't even gone through yet, and even the stand. It took two trips in my truck. Everything you see in the pics, for $1000. It needs to be cleaned up, but that's half the fun.

BTW, the exhaust that was originally with this engine remained in the Ranchero, and the manifolds tat are on it in the picture were just a set Pat wanted to get rid of. They won't be used with it in the future.

Take care,

That is quite the steal. The three carbs (on the floor) alone are worth a 1000. You done good. I have to get my own shop soon!
wow, those boxes look cool with all the stickers.
my dad has a couple of boxes that were expensive. 1 was a mac tool box that was like 4k and another that was a snap on that was like 3500 at the shop

Damn Snap-on. They should offer a 12 step program or something.
BTW, Craftsman's very best toolbox doesn't even compare with Snap-on's. I would love nothing more than to have a wall of Snap-on boxes, but I just can't afford it. Besides, the funny thing is the way I buy them. The newest roll-a-way and chest (the ones with the fewest stickers) and the roll-a-way at the far left were both bought when all I was really looking for was a better socket organizer (bought the combo last labor day weekend, and the single roller a year ago Thanksgiving weekend). The plastic boxes in the foreground are all OTC made Ford specialty tool kits.
Take care,
~Chris
