Ordered My Echaust System

I ordered all my stuff from Mike T today, and will hopefullly get it on Saturday, probably Monday. It is going to be a true dual setup from the stock manifolds to were I have it exiting before the rear tire. BTW how much should a shop charge me to do all the piping and labor since I have all the other components, like $200. Well this is what I got:

94305 - 2 1/4" Magnaflow SS Catalytic Converter
94315 - 2 1/4" Magnaflow SS Catalytic Converter with Air
10790 - 2 1/4" Magnaflow 12" Long SS X-Pipe
14315 - 2 1/4" Magnaflow SS Muffler x2
35105 - 3 1/2" Magnaflow SS Tip x2

I cant wait till I get this in, my setup is gonna sound SWEET!!! Now only if I could turn 14 second 1/4 mile times LOL I will take tons of pics as always and probably get a few sound clips maybe a vid or 2 once I get it installed. Probably early next year I will bolt on some FMS or JBA shorty headers. My truck is coming along, it is just taking time. If I would have done the exhaust right the first time, I would be saving alot of money. Well you live and you learn, and from now on I am going to do it right.

Did the shop install our headers, because that would raise the price, because it is a pain in the A$$.

Ya know what, now that i'm thinking about it....no they didn't.I drove the truck there with open headers.
So maybe i got ripped on the price.I really didn't call around and get prices.

i got a question for you guys. if you have a true duals setup, but instead of 2 mufflers you use a single DI/DO muffler, would that muffler work as an x-pipe (i mean using the DI/DO muffler in place of the x-pipe)? would the true duals/x-pipe/dual mufflers still be a better setup? im just curious...

Donate,

It would depend largely on the muffler design. Some DI/DO mufflers are made in a crossover configuration from what I have heard, but I can't remember any certain types that people stated did so.

Location of the crossover, whether and X, H, or even a Y pipe also plays a role. Generally a crossover closer to the downpipe will help with scavenging more. Though most don't consider a Y a crossover, it has also been shown to increase the scavenging effect.

Overall velocities in the entire system will also affect the overall characteristics. Slowing down velocities too much at any point may hurt scavenging. Many use the theory of bigger is better, and this is simply not the case.

Do a search on FlatsMans exhaust trials. Even in a blower application on a 4.6 he actually lost power going with a bigger system. He later added some custom traps to the pipe ends, and it affected his torque curves and output.

This is what I know, the Magnaflow DI/DO muffler has a built in H pipe. It is quieter than the 2 muffler setup I am using, but H pipes tend to build a little more low end torque, when the exhaust gaese are not moving fast, once they get up to a higher velocity, most of the gas just goes past the H pipe. X-pipes force the gases through them at all time, they dont build as much low end torque, but it blows them away on the mid to high. On a dyno for the 5.4 I saw a while back, changing from the same setup I have, but changing it from a H to an X-pipe, it layed down on average 10 more rwhp. The DI/DO setup and the 2 SI/SO mufflers w/ H-pipe were within 2hp of one another, on I think 3 pulls. I will look for the dyno, but I dont remeber which board I saw it on.
