Replacing Front Disk Rotors on 4x4

I have a 93 F150 4x4 with manual locking hubs, I need to replace my rotors, any tips on getting the hub off , then removing the hub cone and replacing the rotors?

Thanks.

Justin

Hi, you need to remove the assembly from the spindle, then CAREFULLY drive your lugs out the back of the rotor, be careful not to hit the lip the hub sets in. Once you have the lugs out, the rotor will come off the hub from the back. You may have to "persuade' it. Some penetrating fluid will help the whole operation by spraying it around the lugs and where the hub goes through the rotor in the back. Hope this helps.
By the way, you should get yourself a socket to get your wheel bearing nut off. Tell your local parts store what you want. They should have one. It is a short tube with four prongs in the end. To get your hubs off you need to remove the allen bolts, "fish" the outer lock ring out of the hubs, remove the snap ring from the end of the axle, and carefully pull the assembly from the hub. You may have to work it back and forth to get it to come out.
While youve got it apart, why don't you throw in a set of old style hubs and toss those potmetal junkers in the trash?

I've got a '92 with auto-locking hubs. Is the procedure basically the same?

Also, if I replace the auto hubs with some nice manual hubs (Warn, Mile Marker, other?), how will this affect the operation of the SOTF? Does it matter?

you just need to be careful with the auto hubs, they are vaccume operated. If you have a vaccume leak, then you will not have 4wd.

Fords pre-97 auto hubs are not vacume operated.

Only post 97 and 95-up explorer/rangers use the vacume setup. They dont really have hubs they have cv shafts that turn all the time and when 4wd is engaged they connect with the front differential.

I am a mechanic for a power line company with an all ford fleet.
I'm also a ford fanatic.
