air box or twin filters
air box or twin filters
love my truck got it 3 ago weeks. 92 F150 supercab 302 auto XLT ok got the shocks rancho 5000 front air shocks back ,31/10.50/15 bridgestone. Muffler 40 flowmaster .Drained the tranny man that was black JVC cd 12 changer Its coming together. Now air box or twin filters help which way to go also timing14 degrees not more than 16 right or would a superchip take care of the timing I don't want to do any thing that would kick a code THANKS you guys . You are the best
As for timing the best bet it too experiment with your individual truck. I run 14 degrees on my '95 with regular gas, but can easily run more if I use higher octane fuel.
Differences in weight, gear ratios, and ECM programming can affect how much you can fun safely. I tend to back down slightly to account for towing and heavy load conditions. I also run big gaps with my ignition for the lower rev gains, but to some extent big gaps will allow detonation to occur earlier at higher revs.
Just don't go overboard with the changes and take your time. I always turn the stereo off so I can hear even the slightest ping when I adjust timing, just to be safe.

The twin tubes are roughly 3" inside diameter. I used two APC Intimidator cone filters ($15 each)and two 3" exhaust collars($3 each) to clamp onto and some K&N oil(I already had). Stuff the collars into the tubes, clamp, slide cone filters over collar, clamp. (Some soup cans are similar in diameter
) Clamps are $1ea.
I used a standard APC crank case breather filter at the end of the breather tube.($8?) Yes, I removed the air box. Currently the filters are bungee corded down until I figure out a bracket or something.
It sounds like a snake hissing until I hit the throttle wide open and then it sounds like a race car!
I guess I should have snapped a photo

Seems like an inexpensive way to go. Since the TB end of the tube is actually smaller than the airbox end I imagine the tubes flow decent and that you wouldn't be getting much more gain from a FIPK. Is this true?

And what did you use the K&N oil on new filters for?
Thanks, and sorry for the questions!
