Rear ABS..Whats the deal?
Rear ABS..Whats the deal?
Ok, I do have ABS, but I think it is rear only.
Does that sound right for these trucks first of all?
Secondly, we had our first major snow fall here. With rear ABS, you shouldn't pump the brakes right??
Thanks,
Pete

My '92 has rear ABS only. I still pump my brakes a little in the winter if i start to slide. I'm more concered about the front locking up then the rear. As long as you have good tires in the back you shouldn't fish tail to much even if they do lock up.
The ABS on the early 90's trucks is very primative, it doesn't work nearly as well as the ABS on the new trucks.

The idea behind rear only ABS is simple... it keeps the back end in line with the front. With little weight in the back end of an unloaded truck, it's easy to get it swinging out without ABS.
The second thought is that in a heavy truck, the rears don't provide much braking force, so the ABS helps increase the potential for the back brakes.
Overall it's not a bad system for the time frame it was built in. My truck tracks very straight under heavy braking, even on crappy roads.
