So you want to keep your 302 now? Donate, you and me are very alike , we have so many plans for our trucks, it just takes us awhile to get those plans in action, but they do eventually. I cant wait to do my elcetric fans.

yea i think im going to keep the 302, a little better gas mileage a nd i dont have to go thru the hassle of the swap. plus i cant find a 351 around here for the life of me! lol, i got plenty of plans for my truck, my problem is that my imagination is bigger than my wallet! anyways, as far as the cam, im thinking i might just go with a custom made roller cam, it might be more money, but i think it will be the best bang for the buck.

Look at the Crane 2030. .533/.544 lift IIRC, lots and lots of mid-range. It pulls strong from c.2800-5500 peak HP around 5200, peak torque around 3300.

It needs GT40 or equal heads to really turn it on.

ok so i think ive made up my mind! i was playing around with desktop dyno and JerryK was right, the stock 5.0 mustang roller cam has GREAT low-end power! so i called up a friend and he is selling me his old cam with lifters for 20 bucks (i was gonna go with a custom grind roller, but the price difference between 300 and 20 is just too much)! then i talked to the guy who sold me the edelbrock 6037 heads and he told me that he just got new heads, and the roller rockers he had on his old heads (the ones i bought from him) dont fit so he's just going to give them to me with the heads!!! so to recap: i have the roller cam, lifters, dogbones, spider, aluminum heads with 1.7 roller rockers (hope this ratio wont be a problem), and all i need now are the pushrods and distributor gear! the best part, ive spent WAYYYY less than i expected on all this.... sorry for the long post, im just excited and i cant wait to get all these goodies installed

Nice fetch..

Thats the way to build up a truck, get the Mustang boys takeoff parts Those heads will make the biggest improvement of anything you can do next to a blower.

Now put stock sized tires back on, and drop the rear 2" and TAKE IT TO THE TRACK. I cant wait to see how it turns out.

Hello, new to the F150online forums.

Are you trying to put a roller cam into an '89 F150 block? If so, it won't work. The only way to go to a roller is if you use a reduced base circle cam. The lifters are much taller due to the roller itself and basically, they would be sticking up out of the bores in the valley if you tried to install them in your current ('89) block. There are plenty of flat cams, I'm sure, that would work well for you.

Unless of course, you have upgraded your block to a newer factory roller block, in which case everything I just typed was a waste.... I was just guessing from your sig....

GaryJ,

starting in 88, all 302's in the f series were assembled using mustang roller blocks, but they still used hydraulic flat tappet cams and drivetrain. if you get all the parts, its possible to convert to roller cam, but you need new roller cam, hydraulic roller lifters, pushrods, dogbones that hold the pair of lifters, the spider assembly that holds teh dogbones, and a steel distributor gear. theres a coupl eof people on this board and on ford-trucks.com that have done the conversion already and seem to be very happy with it, which is why im planning to attempt it.

Sometimes Ford's decisions amaze me.....

Maybe I should just stick to the Mustang sites...
