Headers

Do any companys offer long tube headers for the 5.0L truck. Will the 86-93 stang long tubes work. This is what I am getting at.
I want to redo my entire exhaust sytem, and I dont know if I want to g owith long tubes or shorties. I want to go with a true dual sytem. Headers to Maganflow Hiflow Cats, Maganflow x-pipe, Maganflow mufflers, Maganflow tips. everything in 2.25" piping, stainless steel, exiting before the rear tires. I dont know which headers I should get.

Somwthing like this:

dynomax and heddman both offer longtubes for our trucks. i got my eye on the dynomax ones because they have a 2.5" collector, while the heddmans have a 3" collector and i think the 3" is a little too big since im looking for low-end power. both are offered painted or with ceramic coating. i cant remember the price of each right now, but i know they were both similarly priced. give summit a call when you're ready and ask them for prices. good luck!

Yeah the dyno max sound good. Do you think if I ran dual 2.5" pipes, I would loose ot much low end compared ot the 2.25. It probably wont make a difference. I think if I did this system I would pick up low end and alot of top end because of the increased scavenging over the stock crap.

im not really sure which diameter is best, but after i rebuild my 302 im going with the dynomax headers and 2.25" piping because i want low end power.

I can tell you that when I installed my 2.5 exhuast out the pass side I didn't feel any low end loss. When I installed my JBA 1 5/8 shorties I felt low end loss. I don't have cats either. I knew that I would find a blower for my truck some day so I didn't worry about it. I did however gain on the high end and off course it got a deeper droan to it also. Food for thought.

We dont have inspects by me either, but I am gonna run Maganflow cats just to give a little more backprerssure. Plus it will quiet it down a little.

Beastie,
I run Hedmen full length headers....not too bad.
But do yourself a favor and try to buy the ceramic coated or thermal coated ones. (Hedmen or Dynomax)
All the others rust in 2 weeks....and look like sh*t. I tried everything to keep them looking good.(bead blasted, high temp paint) It just prolongs the fact.

Beastie, you need to get off the pot and finally put an exhaust on there! Here is what I did..

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=82374

Like Dvl said, the black paint will rust and look bad but I don't care, its my duck hunting/tow rig, not nearly as pretty as his truck! As far as your drawing goes, I did exactly what you have there except I have no crossover. I went so far as to buy an "H" pipe kit from Summit Racing (think it was like $35) but the exhaust shop said there was not enough room. In the end they said it was doable but would be difficult.. in other words, I was gonna pay for it So I run mine w/o a crossover of any kind although I would have liked the X.

Hey Joe, its Jerry, we swapped some parts about a year ago or more for the stangs, how's the car running? On your truck, was the supercharger in kit form, if so, which one? I don't know what an SN2000 is, I know what a Novi 2000 is.. whats the difference? ANY driveability problems? Does it help your towing? Looks like you have all the tuning taken care of w/ the AFPR and BTM, does it need anything else? Still the stock heads/intake/cam? Was your truck Mass Air from the factory?

I ended up going w/ the Mustang Edelbrock Performer intake (upper flipped ala Lightning) w/ an Accufab 70mm, Prom75, ported heads and custom HO cam and FMS mass air conversion..

2.5" but w/ the non-mandrel bends it necks down to probably 2.25 or even less.. I didn't pay big bucks at the exhaust shop but I'm real happy w/ the end product.

JerryK,
Did you loose any low end torque, and did you gain much high end, was it really worth it? What does it sound like...idle cruising WOT?

I don't think I lost ANY low end torque and it did pick up on the top end.. maybe 15rwhp? Maybe more.. I hate saying that but I spend my dyno $ on my Mustang, not on the truck. Even before I changed the firing order (via the HO cam and rerouting the plug wires) people ALWAYS commented how mean the truck sounded. As soon as it started anyone w/ a hint of HP in their blood turns and looks. Then look at it funny because the sound is coming from a truck. At idle, cruising etc.. its loud but not scare the other drivers off the road loud. I gotta tell you though if you change it to the Mustang firing order you'll never regret it! It sounds great.. like every other mustang w/ Flowmasters Granted that sound can be overdone but from a truck it still sounds great! I got to ride next to it while driving my brothers rental car and it put a smile on my face as he smoked me (buick 3.1liter 4door). He was behind me and on my left and the passenger side exit exhaust sounded sweet as he went buy. Its a little loud at idle/start-up from a duck-hunting perspective: wake up and leave the house at 3am when everyone is asleep so yes that part is a bit much but other than that I love it!
