I've got those plugs and cap/rotor and noticed a small over all gain...but my old one's were toast anyways.
I went with there 8mm wires and a MSD coil.

Beastie,

Keep in mind that the V6 turns higher revs than our trucks, and also has about the same power. With this in mind and the V6 producing a 8 HP gain vs 12 HP claims.... well you get the picture.

If I billed a client for 33% over my quoted price I would have a seriously upset person on my hands. For some reason it seems to be allowed when claiming gains on performance products.

I did find a thread where someone dynoed an L with the Densos. Good for 4 (or was it 3?) HP on a truck pushing high 300s at the wheels. Considering that the demands of a blower motor are much greater on a plug than a naturally aspirated engine, I would assume that the $100 won't get much on our engines.

I'm also with Strange Ranger on the 275 estimate. With the GT40 heads and a Mustang intake, along with a B cam, they are only getting around 270. With stock induction and heads I would think we would be pushing it to get into that range.

I had Accel wires once, didn't have luck with them. Misfired within one week. Pkrwd has had success with Accel 300+ wires. I guess we'll see.

8hp at the rear wheels translates to about 12 hp at the flywheel. And the v-6s, wit ha chip shift at 5400 rpms, my truck is set to shift at 5200, so its not a huge difference. Plus they come stock with like 180hp?? I cam stock with 200. All my numbers are flywheel. Are you and strange talking about rear wheel numbers. For me to lay down 275hp @ the rear wheels, would require gt-40 heads and upper/lower manifold.

The 93 5.0 Mustang Cobra Rs with GT-40 heads and manifolds and a Crane 2031 camshaft made 260 flywheel HP.

1993 COBRA R

Type 90° V-8
Bore x stroke 4.0 in. x 3.0 in.
Displacement: 5.0 liter/302 cid
Compression ratio: 9.0:1
Horsepower: 235 hp @ 4600 rpm
Torque: 280 lbs.-ft. @ 4000 rpm

This is straight from the SVT website. I dont want to strart a hp battle. Once I get the mods done, Ill tell you all the seat of the pants difference, and then I'll tell you what a dyno says. I think a stock 5.0 auto lays down like 150-160 rwhp. ill tell yall what I get.

Beastie,

An 8 HP gain at the crank will translate into an 8 HP gain at the wheels. For a given tranny and running gear combo, the parasitic loss will stay virtually the same at a given RPM. I have seen discussions regarding greater losses at extreme applications due to greater bearing loads, etc. This seems logical to some extent, but I've never seen anything to back it up with fact.

I am talking crank HP, and would assume Strange Ranger is also. As I said before, I'm not trying to rain on your parade, I have more or less the same mods. I just think you are being generous in your estimate.

And to put down 275 at the wheels, you would need about 335 at the crank. Keep in mind the the early 2nd gen Lightnings were rated at 360 HP.

I'm sticking with my initial guesstimate of around 235 at the crank with all your mods in place. This should bring around 175 at the wheels if you dyno it on a Mustang dyno. Dynojets tend to be flakey at best but most seem to read on the higher side (surprise, surprise!) so I would shoot for 180-185 on a Dynojet.

We should start a pool to see who is the closest. If you win you can pay for some of your mods and the dyno session. If one of us wins we have even mode mod money.

I would get it dynoed on an eddy chassi dyno. These are the most accurate. BTW, the Superchip alone adds between 18 - 20 hp on the 95-96 5.0s. This is a definate number. So yall cant argue and say it adds 5 or whatever yall think. When I goto get it dynoed with all my mods, I think I will lay down about 200-210 hp. We will see. I say my truck now makes about 235hp. I can beat a 99 F-150 extended cab short bed 4.6L 3.31 gears. So are trucks are configure almost identically, and I would guess I have about 15 hp more than him. If we run to 80mph, I have him by a truck length. This has been done many times, and we usually have close to the same amount of gas.

235 HP? I don't doubt for a second that's what the site says, but it isn't correct. The standard 93 5.0 made 215. The GT-40 package plus the Cobra R cam adds more than 20 HP, a lot more. The number I've always seen was 260, which is may be a bit conservative in light of the SVO catalogue's claim of 270 BHP for the aftermarket GT-40 package which does not include the Cobra's processor, MAF or injectors.

For argument's sakethough , let's say you're right and that the R only produced 235 HP. How do you begin to believe that you're going to make more HP than the full R package with stock heads, a low RPM manifold and stock camshaft? It simply is not going to happen regardless of what the snake oil salesmen at Superchip claim.

Back when my 93 LX was upgraded to essentially R specs with a slightly larger cam (Crane 2030 vs. the R's 2031) and some serious head work, it dynoed at 270 RWHP.

It's better than that now

Can't tell you. The dyno runs were part of some other work which included reprogramming the PCM. Most dyno shops charge either by the pull or by the 1/2 hour. Check around in your area.
