EGR help
I need a new egr valve, I have a 92 f150 5.8L EFI 2wd Auto.
The one that I had on my truck is no longer usable. I ordered a replacement from autozone for 75 bucks (a wells unit) It looks the same, I put it on and check engine light comes on, wtf? (it did not come on before) Then I look at the paper that came with the egr and it says "always use the OE part number when replacing egr valve, dont go by if it looks the same" So im thinking god damn autozone...Havent returned it yet because I wanted to try some junkyards since its cheaper than getting another autozone one (if they even have the right one) but no yards had one.
Called up ford they said the egr valve was updated, so I would have to buy it and a new sensor for 190 bucks.
Anyone give me some suggestions, Im trying to sell this truck and dont want to put another $200 into it.
Thanks in advance

i also ran into that prob and beat my head in trying to figure it out those or anything made by wells is total junk they generalize like the egr you got from them is the same they would use for a v6 but try here www.fordpartsonline.com i went here and got the rightt updated valve for about $60.61 wich is less than you paid for the genaric one lol

Ok, I have major EGR concerns. I dont have any probelms... yet, but look at all this $hi+ on my 351.

Pardon the dust.
I pulled it out of a van and dropped it in running with 50k on it. I didnt want to change anything as swapping it for the six was concern enough, and I wanted to make sure I could get it to run before I started changing anything. I don't know if it was Cali leagal, or just because of the van, but I havent seen this elaborate of a tree saver on any f-150's.
I have both an exahst manifold leak and a vacuum leak somewhere, but to get to any of them Im gonna have to yank all this EGR stuff out of the way. Notice an individual tube running to each port on the exahst manifolds? If I pull them off to fix the leak, I dont want to put all this crap back on. Plus, if I pull the manifolds off, Im gonna put headers on it. Another problem I have is high engine bay temps. All those metal tubes off the manifolds radiate enough heat to grill hot dogs, so I want to just route all that heat out the exahst instead, via those new headers.
What can I do about all this EGR stuff? If I just cap the port on back of the heads am I gonna have runability problems? Im not worried about the code reader screaming at me, I just want the thing to run. Basically how does all this EGR stuff effect how it runs or the computer? I might try using an egr setup like the mustangs or something because I can get that stuff pretty easy, but capping the thing would be easier yet.

Theoretically the EGR system help cool down the combustion chambers. I know lots of people pull it off, and i would like to do the same to mine (it doesn't work very well) but i don't want to cause any problems. Anybody done it? Maybe i should just fix it?
