Now which wire was that again?
I was browsing through my photos and I just had to post these for grins. These pictures were taken immediately after the first time I started up my new 5.8L power plant after pulling the old sixer. I acutally never thought I would get the engine to run and was about to give up and go back in with the 4.9. I had to completely strip the wiring harness from the van and figure out what I needed and what I didn't. I read wiring diagrams and snipped and compared wiring for 3 days straight.
Talk about tedious. There were actually only 2 wires that that I spliced into the existing 4.9L harness (plus the alternator and instrument gages and a couple hots and grounds).
I cant believe it actually started. Noitice the computer siting on the left fender well? LOL

Yeah it was pretty insane. My head was smoking trying to figure it all out.
The computer and engine came out of a van with an E40D tranny, which I didn't use, so some of those wires are there as well. That really isn't any comfort however, because I still tracked down every one to make sure I got it all right. I haven't had any problems related to the wiring itself, which is almost all enclosed in plastic tubing and taped now.
I did have to take the truck in to the shop because it wouldn't start after it got warmed up. Ended up being the TPS sensor, which I never touched. When the mechanic looked at my truck he was not happy. There are 2 wiring harnesses in it. He originally couldn't get a read out on the code reader. I had to tell him that he was reading off the wrong self test output plug -- the one with no engine attatched to it. LOL. I have since bought a code reader to save the mechanics grief. He told me he woke up in the middle of the night thinking about it.
(No, im not kidding!) I thought I was the only one with that problem!
After I first got it done, I didn't know if it was worth it all. After driving it again tonight, I realised adding 2 cylinders and 51 cubes to that sixer is the best mod available.
No comparison whatsoever.
