Well my truck hasn't been it's self for the last 4 months about...it's had a cooling problem which I thought was fixed but witht he hotter weather recently I noticed it's been slowly coming back, and the trucks just hasn't been at overall good, pooor acceleration and ect...
So I broke down and took it to the dealer for the diagnosis, well I just got a call back from them and here's the results....
One of my cats is just about clogged
Bad O2 sensor
Fuel pressure regulator going bad
I asked them why the "check engine light" never came on and they said that their "Ford Motorcraft" diagnostic readers were the best and blah blah....but I beleive him with the diagnosis...
I'm going to be picking it up in a few hours because I told him this is all stuff I'd like to tackle first. As far as the clogged cat this is just a good excuse for me to finaly get my eghaust doen and get some high performance cats in...the o2 sensors shouldn't bve to hard from the looks but do ya think I could replace the fuel pressure regulator MY SELF?

So what do ya think needs to be replaced with the fuel pressure...the dealership said both tanks had the same low pressure so that makes me think the fuel pumps are fine and it would be the fuel pressure regulator...does that sound right?
It's got a new fuel filter.

Fuel regulators generally don't "go bad" They either work or they don't. They might very well be trying to boost your repair bill by a couple of hundred bucks. Pull the vacuum line off your regulator and see if there's gasoline present. If not, the regulator's probably OK. Get a pressure gage kit and hook it up to the Schrader valve in your fuel rail. Get a key on engine/off pressure reading and tell us what it is. Turn the key off and see what your residual pressure is 30 seconds after key off.
There's a bunch of further tests in the PCED manual, but that should prove out the regulator.

I dunno if it is the regulator...I just assumed, because the pressure doesn't change with the tanks...I know there is something wrong with the fuel just because of the lack of power I have off of acceleration...I'll try to check on the schrader valve tomorrow...the schader valve is a slight pain in the **** to get to on the 4.9L's
On the receipt I got back from the dealer it says "Failed Fuel Pressure test" "Needs fuel pump"
BTW the fuel rail is only a year old.

Before you mess with the Schrader valve check for fuel in the vacuum line to the regulator. That is the first test in the sequence and if there is fuel present it's an instant fail, no other tests required.
ok...problem is with my front tank...the pump is going but not gone yet...it's going to have to wait for about a month untill I have the $$$ to get to it.
My biggest problem is getting new cats installed. Just so happens I have to get my truck smogged in 2 months :o
