Understanding the fuel
need some help understanding how the fuel system works on my 96.
Correct me when I'm wrong
I've got a fuel pump in each gas tank with lines that go through the fuel filter and to another external fuel pump then to the fuel pump regulator?
So all together 3 fuel pumps?
Where would the external pump be located?

i think you have a pump in each tank and a diverter switch wich controlls what pump to apply power to. or you just have an external pump wich is located on the frame rail on passenger side with a changover valve wich decides what tank to pull from i do think im correct if anybody here wants to correct me feel free but i think im right i have a book at my shop ill look on tuesday and if im wrong ill post the correct info if not hope i helped

You have 2 pumps, one in each tank. They go to a valve which switches between them, then to the filter, then to the injectors, then the regulator, then back to the tank.

Your truck has an external valve?
My '95 uses the shuttle valve in each FDM, not an external valve. From what I understand the vacuum from the engergized pump opens that tanks shuttle valve, ensuring return fuel can only go to that tank.
The fuel lines actually have a "Y" in them, and join before the fuel filter into a single line. Return path is similar but I think it is more a "T" fitting.
I assumed all the later trucks used the setup mine has, but this could be another thing of sequential and/or mass air trucks having things different.
OK, anybody got a '95 mass air, SEFI, XLT, 4R70W, non CA emissions, open diff, extended cab, bronze and gold 4x4 that has an external valve? I'd really like to narrow this down.....

Honestly, I haven't dug that deeply into it, I was just trying to paint a simple picture for him. His main concern has been the pump(s), and his low pressure. I'm sorry. I should have known better. I feel so cheap.
