Exclamation Uh oh...

I, um, fu....... No i messed up... I put a NEW valve cover gasget on because the one i put on before in one spot did not come over the lip it's supposed to and if i drove 5 miles it would smoke like hell, so i figured out, it was oil! duh. and i went to put bolts back in and stuff, and i got to the last one, oh crap i lost it.... so i look for another bolt (keep in mind the one i found was too long, me i didn't think about that) so i started screwin her in she fit good but was too long, i didn't even feel like it was tight and she sheared off about 1/16" from the top of the head! but i think that the back is fairly tight being the way a valve cover is designed, it has pressure back there, so do you all think i should tap/dye it? i have the right one, i think and a bolt..... **** i'm depressed, i've had the worst fu**-cking luck with this truck!

Well if it were lazy me I'd just find a nut that fit and if there was enough thread sticking out I'd just put the nut on it and tighten it down and worry about it next time I have to take the valve cover off...Try putting a nut on it, if there is enough length and tighten it down a bit and see if it starts to pull the thread out...if not just leave it because if it's stuck in there good enough you made yourself a stud

I wouldn't worry about. Especially if you used gasket sealer. It should be ok theres no oil pressure in there anyway. If it was me a would leave it for the next guy

Don't Mickey Mouse it, fix it right. Drill the broken bolt and use an EZ out to remove it then replace it with the correct one. Don't over torque it this time.

The problem was being too long, and why is it i have the answer before i see that u said it. My instructor for vo tech (auto body) said to use a bolt/ screw extractor, so i'm going to drill it and then extract, hopefully... i bought two bolts so hopefully one will work...

Is there any of the bolt sticking out above the head or is it snapped off below the surface? If it'd sticking out even a little bit you can work it out with a center punch and a hammer if you're careful and very patient. Just mark a spot with the punch then turn the punch on a slight angle and tap the bolt to the right. It should begin to unscrew. Just repeat with a new spot and keep on going till you have enough to grab with pliers and turn out
