All I can say is buy a chip from Mike !!!!!

This explains everything and whoever was thinking about getting a chip all I can say is I should have done this the day I got the truck. Exhaust and filter on a scale from 1 to 10, they get a 2 (just cause they make a cool sound), but the chip gets about a 20, it is really that good. Thats all there is to it. If anyone needs help with the install on theirs I can help them out. I'll post pics of the computer later.

KILLER!!! I was getting kinda tired of being the only guy in this forum that swears by his ECM chip!

Pretty incredible, huh?

Take care,
~Chris

I think as long as you have a computer controlled truck, Mike can hook you up with a chip. All you have to do is remove the drivers side kick panel, (the big piece of plastic that is next to the parking break), it has one plastic screw like thing that holds it in, then it just takes some moving around to get it out. Once you have dont that look between your trucks exterior wall and the parking break braket and you should see that their is and opening that leads to a silver box, you should see something with a bar code and 3 letters with 1 number, thats the computer code. FOr example mine was HUG2. Thats whats also great about the Superchip, rather than being programed for all 95 f150s with a 302, the chip was programmed for my exact computer which makes it work even better. And yes I have mass air and so does Chris.

You are right chris this chip is great. You already have a manual tranny so you didn't get to feel the firmer shifts, but boy did that make a difference. Now all I need to do is get a TransGo shift kit so I can chirp the tires on the 1 - 2 shift, like you manual guys can. I really dont care that I have to use premium fuel, the improvement is that good. And with my fat tires, I used to not be able to spin em at all, even on crappy roads (well maybe a little) but with the chip the low end power is so much better. On some roads I can just stomp on it and spin em (but only on bad roads) but if I break up to about 1500 - 1900 RPMs depending on the road, I can turn a lot of faces now. I makes my take offs slower than a 1400 RPM launch, but then nobody pays you any mind. Now rather than me taking off to catch cars to run wiht, they are finding me. I love it. This has really turned my truck into a "Beast" LOL.

My truck is not mass air, it is SPEED DENSITY! Speed density kicks *** over mass air until you have alot of mods.

I originally went to Mike for my chip, but they didn't have one for my ECM, and I would have had to send mine to him, and I couldn't afford the downtime. I contacted my buddy at Hawaii Racing, and he set me up with a JET chip for my ECM.

Take care,
~Chris

Chris so the same configuration trucks one with mass air and one with speed density, the speed density will win until it is too heavily modified?

Would the mass air lose by a big amount or jus ta truck length or so in 1/4 mile. And why is speed density better?? Chris I always have so many questions, but your knowledge seems endless. LOL

the chip will only set you back around $225. You can order that from the superchip f150online ordering thing. Look for the link in Superchips_Distributors sig.

In short (very short),
1) MAF requires much more mathematical figuring from the ECM, which costs time, while Speed Density is the ECM's best friend, and it responds much faster to changes.
2) The MAF sensor actually acts like an obstruction in the path the air must take to get into the engine. This is why Ford still uses Speed Density on their Formula One engines.
3) SD runs richer than MAF.

As a result of all three, you can change the air filter, bump the timing, add a set of headers, put on some rockers, and a speed density engine will usually respondenthusiastically with crisper throttle response and more power.

Take care,
~Chris

Hmm wishing I had SD now.

Went to the races tongith, but I'm still lacking power. I want to be able to run with the new 5.4l f150s, so I want to be able to run low 16s. What should I do next to achieve this.

I was thinking underdrive pulleys and electric fans, but I dont think that these will yeild that great of an improvement. I need something else that will do as much as adding the chip did. I was also thinking about headers, but I don't know if these will give me an added boost. I can't add cylinder heads or do any major internal mods. The only thing I could maybe do is add Rocker Arms, but do these help out that much. I also want a shift kit, just so I can have those extra firm shifts. What path should I take to make my truck hang with the new guys. What combination of these mods would yall do?

I was also thinking that with my mods I have about 210 hp. Does this sound right.

Now won't you have to send the chip in to get burned with any new mods you add? I always had it in my mind that you should always get the chip last so they could not only burn it for the correct ECM # but also with any mods added to the engine.
