burning truck

Well, last night wasn't my night for fords. It started out that I got the distribuitor in my car wet while going to the local street dance. So the car died on me and I parked it beside my driveway, I really didn't want to fool with cars that night so I got my truck. I go to start my truck and nothing, compleatly dead. I jump start it and am off. Well I get about 15 miles (1 or so out of town) and I am low on fuel so I decide that I will fill up before I do anything. Well at about that one mile mark my battery light comes on and I decide to put it off until I am at the gas station. I finally pull into the gas station and kill the truck. I open the hood to look for what turned on the light, and to my suprise the alternator is on fire. What had happened is that one of my batteries (I have two for the winch) had gone bad, the alternator senced this and tried to charge it, since the battery would not accept the charge the alternator boiled the other battery and proceded to catch fire. The truck is fine, I need the connectors for the alternator and new batteries to get going again. But who would have thought of this. It never even crossed my mind when I jumped the truck. Needless to say I got a ride home, and got the car running, and went dancing anyhow. Hope everyone else had a better weekend.

Do (did) you have an isolator? That's what I installed for my dual batteries, and it will prevent that from happening.

Confused...

no, it wasn't isolated. It was a system out of a diesel. There will be an isolator from now on.
