Lightbulb 85 Power Mods

Owned a Ford my whole life. I Have a 1985 F-150 with a 5.0L 302 EFI, 4x4. This is the first year that Ford went to the EFI and information and kits are hard to come by. I was wondering if anyone had tired this or had any ideas.

Thanks!!!

Just about anything you want is made for the 5.0 regardless of what year it is. Intake, exhaust, ignition, computer upgrades, pulleys... and the list goes on and on.

Personally I've done a cat back, ignition, intake and pulleys on my '95. The ignition and cat back helped more in the low to mid rev ranges, and the pulleys and intake in the upper rev ranges based on my seat of the pants impressions.

Depends on where you want to increase the power.... and how thick your wallet is. Give us a better idea of what you are looking for and your budget, and we can give you all kinds of ideas.

Many here (myself included) are using home grown intake mods. There are several versions people are using, but looking at the factory airbox it's obvious that it's easy to change for the better.

I have done intake and exhaust ( just replaced the muffler) and I love both. You can see those in my gallery. Next for me are March power and amp pulleys and a Superchip.

I am looking for moslty low end power, comming off the line, and being able to acellerate and pass on the road . Mostly conserned about that rather then top end speed, maybe later. As far as budget goes, I am semi restricted by college, but prob around $300-$400 at one time. There is all kinds of stuff for the 5.0 but I am not sure what is for Mustangs and what can be used on the F-150.

Thanks for taking the time to help?

I believ that most of the parts are interchangeable. The stang itnake manifold will fit but the TB is on the other side. The comps are different. But the engines are the same. You could use the same cylinder heads on either engine.

Finally Posting A pic

It now has a black Extang Full-Tilt tarp on the back, but otherwise mostly the same.

Just as a follow up..... keep in mind that some mods will help your mileage a little bit... and help recoup some money for later mods...

Also... this time around I did my exhaust last and the truck didn't seem to suffer having the stocker on. It was actually fun being able to hear nothing but the intake and pulling away from people.

Lot's of 'Stang stuff will cross over to the F-150. My pulleys have a Mustang part #, but also work on the trucks.
