Need larger radiator for '90 F150

Just starting towing the boat.... '90 F150, 4.9L I-6. Runs significantly hotter than without the boat....... My little Toyota used to pull the same boat, and never did the temperature go above normal.

Any tips on where to shop for a (4 core?) radiator, and what I should expect to pay for one?

Should I be looking for an F250 or F350 radiator?

thanks,

Mark

I can't help with the radiator, but you might need a water pump. The plastic fins on yours have probably started to deteriorate, but didn't have any effect until you pushed it.

Take care,

I used a single row aluminum radiator on mine. This is the factory replacement available at any parts store. I put on 2 2row radiators but the fan hit them and tore them up because it was thicker. I never had a problem with the truck getting above the M on normal even at a stoplight with a 3,500 lb trailer and a/c on. I would run a 180 thermostat and check either the water pump or radiator for partial failure. I dont tnink 4 core radiators are available, that is what the 2 row aluminum replaces. The cores, or rows are thicker (about 1-1.25" per row).

BTW, I just bought a 2 row aluminum that cools better than the 3 or four core brass/copper. (the rows are bigger and not equivalent to cores, the fin design is more porus in the aluminum, and aluminum has better cooling properties) $172 tax and all at the local radiator shop. They are available at local parts stores as well for the same price.
