Locking Glovebox?

Why do some gloveboxes lock and not others?!?!
I don't have a lock on my glovebox and I don't realy see any use for one but why don't I have one, others with the same model do?

This sounds kinda like the tach post a while back LOL

Funny you should mention that. Mine has a locking glove box, but i never had the key. My truck was first sold on May 31, 1995, and I bought it during the middle of August, 1996, from the local Ford dealer. I realized a day or two later that I didn't have a key for the glove box, and I went back. They didn't know where it was, and didn't care, so I have always had a locking glove box, just not the key!

Take care,
-Chris

It's not the ignition key?

I just went out and looked at it (God, it's beautiful outside today!!!). The key stagger is the opposite, which means that my main key wouldn't even fit in. I'm going to make a phone call...

Take care,
-Chris

Screw that!!!

I just called Ford. The latch is available for $19, but not the lock. I would have to get a locksmith to cut me a new key. Like I said, screw that!!!

Take care,
-Chris

See, my ignition key is also my door key (square head). It says in my owners manual clearly that the round headed key is for the glove box, but I never got that key. I think at somepoint Ford started combining the ignition and door keys, because it seems like the older ones use two keys there, while the newer ones use one. I dunno.

Take care,
-Chris

hugh,
Maybe the lariet package? My '89 lariet has it, door key of course. Otherwise, I think it is the dual tank option myself.

If yours locks with the door key then, maybe, any key will work in yours.

My old 77 cheby doors unlocked with anything that would fit in the hole. I used a piece of bark once when i locked the keys in it. lol

93xlt, my box key works for both the ignition and doors, and i have a smaller key thats round for the glove box. Never use the key for the glove box, got all my cd's in there!! (and by the way, i dont have a tach, and im stick? Could that be it! HAHA)
