LOL I'm just going to confuse PKRWUD's entire reasoning on this one, BUT my truck is a '92 Custom, and the ignition key and door locks are the same key, and the glovebox key is round. I never knew Ford had the door locks and ignition key's different. Thought that was Chevy's bright idea Oh yea my truck's gotta tach LOL

Talking Might as well......

Okay, I have a '90 Lariat - I have the locking glove box that locks with the round door key.

I've got one key for the entire truck, no tach, Eddie Bauer, reg cab short box, 4.9L, Mas Air, 5 spd, 40/20/40 split seats, alloy wheels with I believe 8 holes, the center caps in the wheels are clear, brown eyes and brown hair.

So why don't I have a locking glove box!?!?!
I would feel a lot more comforted knowing my registration and insurance papers were gaurded by a plastic lock. If someone could break into my truck, I bet they wouldn't be able to break into my plastic locked glove box. LOL

95 XLT, Auto, no tach, locking glovebox with round key. There is probably only a couple different keys for the glovebox. Find some friends that have it and try it in yours. I just wish I could lock the center consol between the front seats, I have more stuff in there.

96 XLT, no locking glovebox, originally came with no tach. One key for both doors and ignition.

I agree with you on that...the console is where it has the change holder and the cd holder.

Actually, that pretty much is my reasoning. I'm guessing they switched from having a separate door and ignition key to having them be one and the same in 1992. In either case, it was always the round key that opened the glove box.

Take care,
-Chris

OK, I am jumping in.. For some reason you don't need any special key to start my truck. Any and I mean ANY key fits into my ignition and starts it. I went to the local Ford dealer and it is a factory Ford part, they can explain why any Ford key starts it, but the keys I have don't open the door locks, but it will open the locking glove box.

I have a 93XLT. My square key is for the doors and ignition. My round key is for the glove box only.
The two are "keyed" opposite.
I DO have a tach so that can't be the clue <G>.
Maybe the ones with the torque converters that last 80K were fitted with the locking box so you can secure your cd's while it's in the tranny shop ????

Glove Box

Well... hmmm..don't think it's trim level... My XL ( was orginally a fleet truck ) has the round key for it's locking glove box. Not that a screw-driver would pry it right open or anything like that. But that's what the Viper alarm is for. So I only keep my Georgia winter gloves in my Glove Box. ( such humor)
