Amount of weight in bed?

I did a search and I couldn't find the answer that I needed but it is possable that I overlooked something.

That aside, I have a 95 F150 XLT. How much can I haul in the bed of my truck? I carried a load of sand this morning and the back end dropped quite a bit. Of course I had no problem with traction whatsoever but....

Does anyone know the numbers on this subject? Or can at least point me to someplace that would have them?

The owners manual has it. There isn't one simple answer. Things like engine, trans, & rear gear ratio all play a part in determining the final amount.

Take care,

I need to know if it's a super cab or not, which engine, trans, and rear gears you have, and I'll see what I can come up with. If you don't know which gears you have, just tell me the axle code from the sticker inside the drivers side door jamb.

Take care,
-Chris

Well...not from any manual, but I had 15 dudes totalling over 2,300 pounds in my bed a couple times. Got a '95 XLT 4x4, with a 302 and the Mazda 5-speed (reg. cab, short bed). The truck performed very, very well-no clutch slippage, no overheating, very respectable acceleration and I did not bottom out.

I think your standard 1/2 ton can carry 2,600 pounds safey in the bed. That's second-hand, though, from a guy who delivers pallets of concrete block in his truck.

later

I've had 3300 lbs of gravel in mine. I also haul a slide in camper that is 1910 empty, add gear, wife, dog, & I and I'm sure we are well over 2500 often. No problems, it squats a bit with that weight, but I've never had any problems.
