Question Switching instrument cluster...one with a Tach?

I'm thinkng of switching my instrument cluster (without a tach) to one with a tach.
Does anyone know if this will be an easy hookup,or is it going to be a wiring nightmare?
The reason i'm switching the cluster is,i want to get a set of those white face gauges and they only sell them for a truck with a tach.

Thanks.

I could get my hands on a instrument cluster that is the same year as my truck. 1991 F-250 5.0 L engine with auto trans.
I just want to know if it will just pop in.

Thanks.

Don't quote me, as I haven't done it personally, but I have heard several times that the wiring is there for everything in all trucks of the same year, the difference is in the gauges. In other words, you shouldn't have any trouble at all.

Take care,

His is a '91, and yours is a '94. Different gauges.

Take care,

Go to a junk yard and find one your year. Peace of cake, just plug and play. Take your old one out, pop the new one in. You can even take the clusters apart if you want to keep your odometer (but then you don't have the trip-odometer). I got my odometer re-set by a local speedometer shop.

See my page.

Bjoern,

Thanks!
I don't follow you on the trip odometer.Does trip indicator run off a seperate cable?
Also,is it possible to get the tach working once i put it in....do i have to run extra wires or buy a special harness?

Any advice would be really helpful

Thanks again.

The trip-odometer is on the same instrument as the odometer (see my pictures). If yours is anything like mine, you don't have a trip-odometer right now. So if you want to keep your odometer, you can't put the one from the tach-cluster on yours. And if you want the trip-odometer, you have to get the new odometer adjusted to your old odometer reading.

That's the nice thing about it: if you don't want to open the new cluster, bring both clusters to an odometer shop and get the odometer reading identical to yours, plug it in where yours used to be and you're good to go. Plug and play, nothing to wire or hook up, it's all there

Let me know if you need to know more!

Bjoern,

I won an auction on Ebay for a instrument cluster for a 1991 Ford F-150 w/ a tach.
It's looking good so far.
So,i don't need any extra wiring done to hook up the tach............all the wires will be in the dash? It's almost too easy!

Are the wires already in the dash or do i have to run them myself?

As I said: just pop the new cluster in where your old one was and you're good to go.
