Won't idle

My dad has a 94 F-150 with a 302.
The problem is a very erractic idle if it'll idle at all. The throttle body blades open when truck is off and you push the gas pedal. But when it's running it barely opens if at all. It's probably the TPS but is it the solenoid looking thing closest to the front of the intake? If so, we have removed and cleaned it, and it still don't do s@#!
On my Mustang you can unscrew the top of the TPS to adjust it, this as near as I can tell you can't. It sounds and acts like it's starving for air.
Please help, oh! by the way the truck has at least 145,000 miles on it, didn't know if that made a difference. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Brent

idle problem

i have a 87 f150 with 160,000 miles about two months ago it started idling funny it would idle way up (2500 rpm) and then some times it would surge up and down it drove fine but gas milage really suffered ( if it can get any worse than a 4.9 already is ) . but my problem was the tp sensor it was only $25 dollars . i would start there

I love mine too, but she does drink an awful lot of fuel. Of course, if I would stop driving her like she was my nitrous injected 403, maybe it wouldn't be so bad!

Take care,
-Chris
