fuel pump toast?

My truck has been having trouble running off the back fuel tank. I first noticed a problem when the motor would run rough when revving it passed 3,000 RPM. This was a while back. Since then, I would try running the back tank every once in a while. Sometimes it would run (but still cut out at high RPM), sometimes it just wouldn't run, period. Runs like a top on the front tank.

I'm assuming the pump on the back tank is toasted, but I'm not sure if there's anything else I should consider before dropping the cash for a new one. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Sounds toast alright, since its tank specific. An 88 rear tank that still holds gas...amazing. My truck had a recall on some kind of cross over valve re: the dual tanks. I haven't taken it in yet so I'm not sure of the details. Check here to see if yours has a similar recall www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/

Yup....the tank still does a fine job of holding fuel.

Actually, you could count the number of problems this truck has had on one hand, and still have fingers left over.

...mine still holds fuel also. The recall prevents your truck from transfering fuel from one tank to the other, I don't know exactly why it does it but ford doesn't like the idea. My pump did the same thing for a while, then I replaced it and all fine.
