New to the site - just bought an F-150 - help ?

Is there an easy way to tell if the truck I bought is 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton ?

It is a : 1989 F-150 XLT Lariat
302 V8
Automatic
4X4
Long bed, standard cab.

It seems to sit really high, and I was wondering if maybe it is a 3/4 ton.

Also, I am wanting to pull my 19 foot boat with it , but it seems as if the bumper is awfully high compared to where the trailer would like to ride ( tandem axel 12" wheels).

Any ideas for that too? It has an aftermarket bumper on it but I have no idea what it is rated for and cant find anything on it tellng me make or model.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

F-150 = 1/2 ton, hence the name.....

Taller suspension, due to smaller than stock tires making the truck look bigger, best of luck with your Ford.

Actally, if I remember correctly , the inside of the door called for 235/75/15s. Which is what is on it... hmmm...

Now I am even more confused...LOL

So the 3/4 ton trucks were all F250s ?

yep
150 = 1/2 ton
250 = 3/4 t
350 = 1 t
450 = 1 1/2 t
550 = 1 3/4 t

yep. If you have any doughts about that bumper for towing you should get a real hitch that bolts to the frame. It will handle more load than your bumper, and be lower for a better hook up.

Your F150 will handle that 19' without problems.

Well any recommendations on the best way of going about getting my boat attached ?

Like I said it seems really high off the ground. My dad's 98 F150 wasnt nearly as high, and that is what I used to pull the boat before( unfortunately he lives 2 hours away, so I got my own truck-- Had 3K, and searched all of Ohio to find one this nice..LOL ).

Is it possible someone replaced the springs in the rear ?

Not arguing, just trying to learn. I know cars, I know nothing about trucks..LOL.

Any help is appreciated.

you'll prob want to spend the $100 or so for a reciever hitch and get a drop ball mount to level it out

Thanks for everyone's help.

A standard hitch is probably the way to go.

Thanks for the complement ... it was a great find. A few things still need to shake out, but I am pleased.

Thanks to all for your input , and if you have any other info , please pass it along , it is appreaciated.

ie: how many leaf's are there on a 150 compared to a 250 , etc... so I can maybe tell what might have been added or changed to the rear.

Well I am going to post my tranny question now. Thanks again all ! Great site , great people, and some really nice trucks !

The stance appears about the same as my '95. I have noticed that my truck sits higher than some others of the same year. I suspect differnt spring packages are the cause.

Anybody have the codes for the different springs?
