Your truck doesn't have a tach? I always figured that all 5 speeds came with a tach. Hmmmm.

But it's a good excuse to buy a nice fat one and mount it on my dash like all these guys driving their little civic here in S.Cali.

Well, the concept of a stick shift without a tach is just plain stupid to me. I love Ford, but someone wasn't thinking clearly. With an automatic, a tach is for looks, unless you're a racer. The shift points are controlled for you. With a stick, you control the shift points, with the help of a tach.
I think two of the three Pintos I owned didn't come with a tach, either, and they were 4 speeds, but other than those, I honestly can't think of a stick shift vehicle made in this country that didn't come with one. I'm sure there are dozens, but it just seems so bass ackwards.
Okay, my '66 Chevelle didn't come with a tach either, and it had a Muncie 4 speed. But, in 1966, less than 30% of the vehicles sold had automatic trannies, so maybe they figured people just knew how to drive sticks. Auto trannies were still pretty new then.
I don't know. This is going to bug me for a while.

my 89 is a xlt lariat and it is solid colored and pwr win/ locks Ray.
but no tach and is auto.
i had a 87 xl or custom, no options and it came with a tach. i never used it tho. you just know the shift points by listening and when racing it;s by the power band loss. at least i would think, i am not a racer.
