I think I need a new water pump...

I think my water pump is leaking from the "weep" hole. Over the past few months I've noticed that the bottom of the motor is wet with coolant. I believe its coming from the pumps weep hole.

My question is: Is there a different pump for the "towing package" f150s and the regular F150s? I would assume they are interchangeable. Correct?

Thanks,
scott

Resurrecting an old one.......

Yesterday I discovered a wet spot under my truck ('90 5.0). I crawled under today to find the source, and noticed that the WP is pi$$ing out the weep hole. My question is this;

Is the WP on our trucks (302) the same part as for a Mustang?? I really want to go back with a Ford pump, and if I can use one of the plethera of Mustang parts houses to get a god price on one, then that'd be great.
Anyone know the answer to that one?

Thanks in advance!

Wade

I dont think it should make a difference, but I am not sure. Make sure you use a brand new pump and not a reman, unless you want your fan to go through your radiator (I'm still bitter about that one LOL).

Mustang uses a different water pump backing plate. You can use a mustang pump just be sure to use your trucks backing plate. The plate is only held on to the pump by 2 bolts, so it is any easy swap.
One plate has round holes and the other has oval holes.

Thanks fellas

I actually went to advanceautoparts.com and searched for a Mustang application, and then a truck application, and they listed the same part numbers. That, such as it is, THIS should work for me, huh?

I think the one that has the round holes in the backing plate(mustang pump) will work on either one, but the oval holes(truck pump) will only work on a truck timing cover.
You should be fine with that one.
Good luck

Well, I got the old pump off today, and I see what you're talking about with the holes in the backing plate. I pulled the truck backing plate off to re-use. However, if I'm not going to use it anyway, I may whip out my Dremel and try to cut the Mustang backing plate holes out to match the truck holes. )Taking it off of the pump first, of course!)

BTW guys, the Ford Racing pump looks identical to my stocker, and it was only $42 from DPM
