Water pump R&R questions..... (easy ones)

Is there a chemical out there that helps remove old gaskets? This old WP gasket is on the timing cover like cement! I can't really muscle-up on it because I don't want to butcher the timing cover, not to mention that there's not a whole lot of room to manuever under there.

Also, which would you guys use on the WP bolts - Loc-tite, or anti-seize??

Thanks,

Wade

Lock-tite makes a gasket remover in an arosol can "Chisel Gasket Remover" part # 79040. I've yet to use it so I cant vouch for it either way. I usually have good luck with a sharp puddy knife.

Use anti-seize on water pump housing bolts/studs. Loc-tite on pully bolts. If you use silicone make sure to spray brake clean to the mating surfaces and give it a few seconds to evaperate before you apply it. This will ensure there is not a film of grease etc to prevent the silicone from adhereing.

***Make sure you use a new water pump (not a reman) unless you want your fan/clutch jumping through your radiator. Speaking from personal experience there.***

Hey, 92, It may already be too late to tell you but there is a WP upgrade! If you go to SUMMIT Racing.com It's called the BRASSWORKS FLOW COOLER Conversion Kit. They claim that the $6.00 part that you add to your new WP Helps it flow 60% more coolant this maybe the only Heavy Duty upgrade for the WP.? Part # BRA-3875-03 for the 302 and other models , the Big Block one has a different part # If you already have yours in maybe someone else would be interested?

3m makes a little thing called a ro-loc, It is a little disc sander for angled die grinders. It does the job very well.
