Question Dual fuel tanks

I have a 1995 Ford F150 XL with dual fuel tanks and sometimes it won't let me fuel up. I know both tanks are empty but it does the automatic shut off as if it was full. Why does it do this?

not check the valve . there is "check valves" in the neck of the fuel tank . it is a spring loaded valve . normal pressure from the fuel entering lets fuel in but not out . it maybe faulty . we had ford chassi motor homes that that fual fillers weren't high enough about the tank not allowing enough pressure to open the valve to let more than 50 cents of fuel in at a time . would take forever to fill a 60 gallon tank !!!

OH OK. I read it wrong, that is what it does, it only fill like 50 cents at a time, only one of the tanks does it. I know what you mean about taking forever, that is no fun, thanks for replying

check the routing of the hose . try to make a low spot in it along it's route somehow . and see if that helps ??

could also possibly be a blocked/kinked vent line?

My front tank has started doing this too, and once in a while I get a gas smell. Is it common for the vent lines to get clogged?

mine does that on occasion, try pulling the fuel filler nozzle out about 1/4 - 1/2 inch, usually helps mine.
