yes it is a proven fact that the I-6 runs better with dual exhaust . but the way to do it correctly is with a header set . (6 into 2).

I'm curious to hear how this works out for you. I installed an Edelbrock cat back kit that has dual 2.5" pipes from the muffler back. I didn't notice any gain or loss of off-line power, but it did improve the top end. I would be concerned that 3" pipes might be too much. You may lose some bottom end torque and responsiveness. The real test would be when towing. Keep us posted.

Ray-
I don't know what year they started using them, but my 4.9L has a killer factory exhaust right up until the cat. It has two tri-y header pipes that meet just before the cat (rather than a 6 into 1). I would fear losing too much back pressure with a true dual exhaust in the 4.9L. Maybe if the pipes were 2" or 2.25". It would take some testing. With the factory dual tri-y's, though, it is possible. Hmmmmmmmm.

Take care,
-Chris
