Question Code Scanner

After reading several message trails on engine idling problems it seems that I will need a Code Scanner to fix my 92 5.0 high idle problem. I have replaced the IAC but the problem still exists. Idles at 3000 RPM. . My question is (I have not yet bought a scanner) where do you plug the scanner in...is there a connector somewhere in the engine compartment?

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

If the check engine light is not coming on then the code scanner will not do you much good if ther are no codes. If anything you need axcess to data stream information. Even if you have that it may not tell you anything other than the idle is to high. Its up to you to figure out why. Since you have replaced IAC and not fixed it, before I spent any more on parts or equipment I would try to eliminate vacuum leaks. Check all hoses and throttle plate for binding. Egr stuck open. Intake gasket. PCV system.

Thumbs up

If I'm not completely mistaken, your year should be covered by this document

http://dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html

So you won't need any scanner...
